Considering buying, L4D vs. L4D2?

Just wondering what the main differences are between Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2.

1. Which is better?
2. Which has better online?
3. Which has better single player/campaign?
4. Are there any major differences in terms of gameplay?

Of course these are mostly opinionated but w/e

1. I prefer 1 because of the different feel, but more people enjoy l4d2 due to the increased weaponry and just other people playing it, which is a shame.
2. 2 Definitely, Valve has basically given up on l4d1, the servers for it are complete ♥♥♥♥ now from what i've seen.
3. It's pretty much the same thing, but both games have a different "control feel" to them, I prefer the first one.

Things that L4D has that the sequel doesn't: legs, more survival maps.
Other than that, everything from L4D was ported into L4D2. 2 has melee weapons, more guns and more items overall.
There's no good reason to get the first one anymore.

L4D2, because it's basically it's own game and L4D1 combined.

Well again, since L4D1 has been incorporated into L4D2, the latter comes out on top.

Not really. I found L4D1 to be more atmospheric (darker, more gritty etc), and as the poster above says it had a different feel to the gameplay. Other than that, no.

How would you describe the "different feel to the gameplay"? As in L4D's movement mechanics/physics are more smooth?

l4d2 brings also some maps from l4d1

If you can't afford to buy both, I'd recommend you buy L4D2.
It includes all of the Campaign and Versus maps from the first one. On top of that you get the Campaign and Versus maps from the second, some more game modes, melee weapons and extra special infected. And if you want to experience the old L4D1 gameplay there are probably mods out there that remove the "new stuff".
Personally I prefer the campaign from L4D1 over that in 2, as the characters and setting appealed to me more. That's not to say that the second isn't fun to play though.
If you want to play them in order (you don't have to):
L4D1: No Mercy, Crash Course, Death Toll, Dead Air, Blood Harvest, The Sacrifice.
L4D2: Dead Center, The Passing, Dark Carnival, Swamp Fever, Hard Rain, The Parish

I highly recommend you complete all campaigns first to get to know the maps before you try versus.

Just buy L4D2 and you'll get both games. There isn't much difference in the gameplay, excluding the new infected. The maps are completely different though.

I think he was talking about the animations in-game, somebody told me L4D1 had very nicely done animating when Turtle Rock Studios was in the house until Valve "downgraded" 'em with L4D2.
