Valve, please re-submit L4D2 to Australia for re-classification.
Now that Australia has an R18+ rating, we would LOVE to play the game in its full glory!

Its not about that. Some country protect youth from unwanted images videos and games, who can create personallity dissorder. The State, or Steam cannot risk a law process, because a kid accesed a agme from that criteria. Damages to Steam could be huge. Thats why the game is not allowed in Australia. Is not about age, its about system shield against kid acces, wich is not ready. *(getting a credit card to a parent and know what to do withit its an issue) I classified this game restricted under 24. Im 34 and I can say that could make a real damage, on personallity level , to a kid. Counter strike, under 16. and so and so. those kids are rushing to play "interesting games" not knowing what danger could expose on imaging (dreams,), psyhologically (trauma) and fizicly (Phisycal general dissorder PGD).

I agree with Honzo. Now that it's the new year, the people of Australia should be entitled to the uncut version of L4D2, especially since the R18+ rating has just been passed. I think a quick patch would fix this problem.

I'm definitely looking forward to an Uncut version getting sick of this reduced gore.

they can't just patch it. valve have to resubmit it to be reclasifid as R. which costs money. Will they do that you can only hope.

Reclassification process may take weeks or longer. Valve may be in the process already, or they may not be back from holidays yet. Also, Valve will need to consider how to approach the issue of current owners of the game. I'm sure many people would want their game patched, but there may be parents who bought an MA15 game, and would not want it "upgraded" to an R18 game (although by now, kids who were 15 at the time the game was released will be old enough for the R18 version - there may be people who bought it recently for their kids, and don't want it to be uncut). In any case, they'll need to decide whether to release a new version, and label it as uncut, while retaining the censored version for current owners, or to offer an optional upgrade, or just patch it for everyone.

My personal choice would be to release a new, uncut version, exclusive to Australia, with extra content as a bit of a consolation prize for having to wait so long - Something like 'Australian Halloween', which, for people who don't know, is even more terrifying than Australian Christmas.

Whatever they plan to do, it would be nice if Valve could do a press release or something, just to let us know.

You are 34 and you write with a wall of text, then expect everyone to think that playing a fictional game makes people crazy or have some anti social behaviour....

Your name is ironic.

Seriously if you wrap people in cotton woll that is the end result, sensitive emotional people as you see they manifest into morons as they age.

Don't care - I WANT VIOLENCE... I WANT BLOOD... I want to play this game in the same manner that the rest of the BLOODY WORLD got to experience it.

Sniper Intelligence. First : I respect that you took the time to post sensibly. That being said, there has never been a third-party study that shows even the slightest link between video games and violent behavior. Any study claiming such findings had been exposed as being funded by anti-video game lobbyists, poliiticians, and lawyers. Remember Jack Thompson? His disbarment and the judgement that video games are protected as free speech are the two most sane judgements made in this age of anti-video game infomnia. Games do not condition children to violence. The fact is, those school shooters who played video games were very troubled people, and violence on TV and in movies likely did as much to fuel their sociopathic fantasy as any game. The studies done which follow proper scientific procedure has established no causal link between violent video games and actual violence. Don't be such a reactionary, remember, you parents thought Elvis Presley and rock&roll would lead to pandemonium in the streets, kids murdering and raping others, gangs, etc. No such problems. New media is always lambasted by the older generation as a bad influence. Yet, here my generation stands, the best so far, with great technological leaps ahead of us because we've grown up with technology, and hopefull a beginning to the end of racism (I don't know for a fact wether the South African I play games with is white or black, and I don't care, he's my friend). Games are no more violent than any other form of media, all of which came into acceptance gradually. Our push to bring games to the mainstream will not be so quiet or gradual. We have the networking skills to reach more parties who are truly interested in the debate and are willing to hear the truth, even if it challenges the status quo. Face it, games are protected by the first amendment, and if a man can drink alchohol, he is a far greater risk to society than a video games. Wake up and see the real world around you, we're the rising generation and soon there will be senators and presidents who grew up playing everything from Mario to Grand Theft Auto. It's not the game that makes a person violent, a violent person will eventually be violent, and only targeted mental health care and family support can make that person a healthy member of society. As far as Australia goes, the law's the law, get those Aussies (and Kiwi's, I think) the games they want, the way they want them. If you finished reading this, give yourself +2 reading points for the day and +1 knowledge. -Fell

Left 4 Dead 2 is censored in Australia because the original was rejected for the MA15 raiting, effectively banning it. From what I understand the problem they had was it's violence against what the classification board refered to as "infected people".

Now that we have an R18 raiting the non censored would without a doubt fall under such a raiting and therefore could be sold in Australia if it is resubmitted to be reclassified.

I've heard there are time periods on resubmission, but I'm sure valve will want to do this when it is able to, it will generate some buzz for the game, it's one of there small core titles and also they seem like a pretty caring company.

Your nickname is ironic, or don't you udnerstand what that means? Here is a hint: Poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended. i.e. intelligence - points to the fact that you are intelligent or affiliated with an intelligent recon group but that is contrary as you seem to have none.

Now that you have made yourself look a moron twice perhaps you will relent and go back to your cave.

The only frustrated people are those like yourself who class everyone in one category based on age and or class, you must still live in a basement with no contact with the outside world or is it you choose to be ignorant, i am not sure neither do i care.

Your statements are naive and breathtakingly moronic and ignorant of factors that you just would not comprehend so i digress, have at it keep being a moron and ignoramous, but please change your name it does the word intelligence no justice.
