FIX THE NO MERCY ELEVATOR GLITCH ALREADY!
How long has this glitch been present?

I had two very close games ruined by this glitch tonight. One in which a team mate fell through the floor and died and another in which my entire team fell through the floor and died.

I can't imagine it's a terribly difficult glitch to fix given that other campaigns have elevators which work perfectly fine (Dead Center, for example). This glitch has been present since the level was imported from L4D1 and it's never been fixed (other than disabling jump, which doesn't work 100% as you can still die if you are incapped in the elevator or if you heal, or even just seemingly at random and for no reason).

Please fix it. I can't really count the number of games which have been ruined by this. It's especially frustrating when it's a close game, too, which are rare enough to find given the number of rage quits. So it really sucks when you finally find a good, close, game only to have one team completely handicapped by people falling through the elevator floor and dying.

This is simple stuff which should have been fixed ages ago, so I don't understand why this bug has persisted for so long (especially since "No Mercy" is probably the single most played campaign in the entire game).

So, again I played tonight and the same thing happened. A Close game, and someone falls through the elevator on No Mercy, ruining the game.

Is this a hard bug to fix or something? Why has it been around for so long?

Well i never had that kind of glitch so is it just you?

It's not just him. This is a bug that have been around for a long time and never got really fixed.
From what I understand it can happen for two reasons:

- If someone is lagging pretty badly (he/she might fall down the shaft);
- By pure bad luck (it will happen to somebody, randomly).

To be honest I doubt this will ever be adressed. And the funny thing is this is the only elevator in the game with this problem. It doesn't happen anywhere else.

You'll never fall through a descending elevator, so elevators like Dead Center's are always safe just from their nature. But going back up the elevator by the Sugar Mill in Hard Rain can glitch you through the floor too, but it seems to leave you stuck until you are teleported back up to a teammate, so it's not an issue. Honestly, the NM elevator travels so far up that it moves extremely fast, magnifying any ping issues so laggy clients end up under the floor very easily. It's the speed and ascending nature that cause this engine glitch, not just that elevator specifically.

Although I've heard a simple fix without touching the engine would be making the ground of that shaft a brush that would teleport survivors back up to their teammates, so players would still randomly fall through the floor and let out a falling death scream, but they'd return safely back like nothing happened in a weird "WTF just happened?" moment that didn't effect gameplay. Maybe if we bug Valve they'll include a basic fix like this before the official Linux release of L4D2. But I can assure you, if it's not included before then we'll have to wait until the next glimmer of attention is shown towards L4D2 again, which may never happen.

Cold Stream was the last opportunity to really push Valve to include map changes, and our suggestions fell on deaf ears. I doubt they read these forums as it's mostly kicking threads, friend requests and troubleshooting, but I'll bump this thread anyway out of frustration. I mean, we still have glitched finales. Clearly nobody at Valve plays L4D2 anymore.

Another point I would like to mention. In the elevater, move around a bit. And constantly as well. I find this prevents from falling through. Do NOT player push though. As I witnessed people fall through when this happens.

Its caused because when you are in the sequence of healing, incapped, or the O2 tank, you'll move slower up than the elevator.

Just experienced it ten minutes ago.

Had it happen when people try to heal themselves or others and when passing pills and throwing the occasional oxygen tank.

Before I even read your response I was about to say something along the lines that a byte of bandwidth must has fallen off. Get it? lol

What's even more funny is that one of the people I was playing it actually fell through the eleator and got r*ped by a hunter. There is nothing you can do about it if it happens.

The same bug...
Corronchilejano 2. Mai 2013 um 12:14 Uhr
- Never go idle.
- Never heal teammates inside the elevator.
- Move constantly around.
