Underachieving!
Why on earth doesn’t Valve revisit L4D2 and vamp it up? It’s always maintained a lot of interest from gamers, but could have achieved so much more. More gun types. Customisable characters. More campaigns. I really do think the franchise could have kept on and on, if only Valve made the effort. What do you think?

But none of this is officially supported stuff. We need DLC! User customisations are completely pointless in my opinion.

What, you want to see Demopan in Left 4 Dead 2? I'm perfectly happy with my mods as client-side only. There's easily enough character customization in mods. All that needs to be done is for more servers to be un-pured.
As for maps... do you remember Cold Stream? The ported Left 4 Dead campaigns? Very few play Cold Stream, and the ported campaigns are sad mockeries of their originals. There are plenty of high-quality custom campaigns out, and usually servers to support them. I don't think we need Valve's help on that one.
More gun types would be nice, but that just ain't gonna happen. I'm of the suspicion that Valve is working on something else right now, so any sweeping reforms will either have to wait or won't happen at all.

Your opinion is terrible.

Your post is useless, there is already thousands of good mods made by the community (wep skins, characters, maps...).

well maybe Valve is working in a Left 4 dead 3, along with HL 3......

So you are saying that if Valve built in character mods, you would not be in favour? And if Valve produced DLC maps you would not want them?

I don't see why community mods has anything to do with this discussion. The discussion was about whether Valve should have made more of this game - not whether or not a mod community exists.

There are significant differences between community mods and fully supported DLC. Many people don't use community mods, but they WOULD use DLC. I am one of those people. I could give you the reasons why, but thats largely irrelevant - I think there is a large number of people who don't use community mods but would purchase a DLC for this game. And that's my entire point really. Valve missed an opportunity.

No i don't want to pay for a dlc, who would this seriously. I can't believe you're asking for paying dlc when there is awesome free campaign, weapons skins, characters, even audio mods. What's wrong with you ? And really there is no difference, i saw some professional work in the community.

There is a huge difference. I know that some people like yourself love to customise, but frankly I have never seen the point in doing that when you are the only one who sees or hears the customisation. But the important point here is that your opinion is just that - it's an opinion, it's not a fact, and it's not the only one either - very many people will pay for DLC. If DLC's were not popular, companies would not produce them. To say that there is something wrong with me bacause I will pay for them, is frankly utterly ridiculous. Sure there is an active modding community, but what you have to accept is that there are a considerable number of players outside of that community who would rather just pay for DLC. You may not be able to understand that, but you can't sit there and deny that such people exist!

Didn't want offense I just can't get this mentality, i guess you're not of the same generation than me. Of course they can do money with dlc we know this but i think it's objective to say than accepting this pratice is definitely not beneficial for us players. I personally don't want dlc for this game and anyway it's a game old of 4 years they definitely don't think to work on dlc.

Ok, then I will explain my reasons. I did try downloading some community stuff, but most of it was very poor. Even if the level was well designed, often the play wasn't very good ( ammo in the wrong place, and so on ). When it comes to customisations, I just don't see any point in customising only my copy of the game. It's like having a new pair of shoes but only being allowed to wear them in the house. Now sure, I know that some people will have a different opinion, but I do think that DLC would have sold well with this game, and I really don't understand why valve didn't produce any.

Is it so important than players see your wep or character skins ? You play for you not for others. I know what you mean for custom campaigns difficulty is often unbalanced, but you still can set the difficulty lower or try to play with real players.

Mods aren't that interesting. Why? Because they aren't SHARED. I remember the good (not so old) days of Wolf enemy territory, I was joining modded servers, stuff was DOWNLOADED automatically, and I was playing the SAME mods as other players.

It's not that bad to play with a zoey as Alice or the Portal team vs Half-Life zombies but.. half of the fun isn't there when you know that other players aren't seeing the same thing. You don't get the nice surprise of special skins or sounds when joining a custom server, you just get the ones you picked yourself. I do like the surprise of ending up in a modded server as 8vs8 or with customizable percs, it should have worked the same way with skins & campaigns.

And because of the lack of auto-download, add-on campaigns are underpopulated. I've rarely bothered with campaigns as I know I won't find players. They're also generally crap, although I've seen add-ons much better than cold stream.

Yep but some persons don't want to play with stupid mods who transform characters in spider man, teletubbies or don't know what again. L4D is a mature game, there is team fortress for this. No offense but the current client mods system is good and if you absolutely need to show your very awesome stuff it's just a problem about your ego.
