Very few mic users - why?
I would imagine that a game which relies so heavily on teamwork, most people would be using a mic. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Why? I've been playing this game for 415 hours and I've seen less than 30 mic users (NOTE: I play campaign mode).

mics are more common in the versus modes

You don't need a mic if you are good enough.

Mics most of the time do more harm than good.

Advanced players use their mics the most, if you're in normal or expert you'll have fewer mic users.

Becase they dont want to show off with their childish voices.

Mics are pointless in public. Most of the time, quality is so horrible it's impossible to understand anything. Not necessarily because people have crappy mics, but because of the awfully low ingame bitrate for voice transmission. Many players don't understand spoken English well enough, especially in the middle of a bloodbath, and Source games are ridiculously LOUD. Not to mention musical clues and sounds are very important to spot SIs, or a CI sneaking up on you on Expert.

If using TS or something, with three friends, then yes it's the way to go, but otherwise smart use of in-game vocal commands and chat beats mics anyday.

I'll have to agree with most of what you said.
There's some good points in there.

I agree with Tavi; I often find it hard to hear some players because there's static on another person's end. Usually, I just type to communicate with everyone, I'm used to it so it works better and faster than talking. ^^

As for why there isn't a lot of mics in general, though, the reasons vary.

I find a lot of mic users late at night, though, so you can try and find people then.

You dont need to use mics in this game unless you're completely worthless especially if you're just talking about campaign. Even in versus a good team should need no communication to form a good attack. Mics are only good for banter and commentary infact anytime I come across someone trying to "communicate strategy" its some asshat with a couple hundred hours spouting pointless commands I know to do without thinking.

You really dont even need sound if you have comments on. Its one thing If you need to scream at some idiots that have no idea what they're doing. If you need someone to have a mic so you know what to do or that they need cleared or an item youre hoarding then you need to find a new game to play.
Nosfrat 25 ott 2013, ore 8:18
Mics are somewhat important in Realism, unless you really know the people you play with, and can use "in-game body language" as clues to what you guys are doing, but otherwise the only reason to use a mic would be in the rare cases where every second is valuable, and typing takes enough time to make a difference between life and death... Not common enough to warrant the use of a mic though.

you are Dumber then I thought.....Maybe its because there are idiots like you taking crap in the mic all time....

That's strange that everyone here agrees that mics are useless in this game. It's been a while since I've played regularly a little more than a year ago but the mic was extremely important in Advanced and Expert.

Well, have you never stopped and think about, that the people start in easy and will work their way up to experienced.... but meeting crappers like you, maybe have taken the joy away of having their voice over on?

Not many people use mics in Coop, they use them in situations that requier more teamwork, like versus.

Chill out. It's not like I constantly look for Easy games and join everytime just to ♥♥♥♥ people off. I do join them sometimes but not nearly as often as you seem to think. I usually just stay away from them because I don't like to join a noobfest. Let the noobs play with the noobs, let the pros play with the pros.

UPDATE: I actually don't join any Easy games at all these days, I mostly stick to Advanced and I even do coaching in order to help people become better at the game.
