I am going to assume that you are asking why the orginal game still has a loyal following. Mostly because it is the original and people are resistant to change. Another reason, to which I am just as guilty, is because due to the original game not having all the weapons of the sequal, there is a stronger sense of "I might not make it."

I play both, Left 4 Dead 2 mostly. What I can say for Left 4 Dead is that it has a better atmosphere, tighter gameplay, better animations, and nicer characters. Plus you can see your legs.
Left 4 Dead is a tighter, streamlined, (in my opinion) better game than Left 4 Dead 2, plus there are no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gauntlet runs, but Left 4 Dead 2 has more stuff and shinier graphics.

I like the new aspects of L4D2, but the specials were less cluttered in the first game. Having them appear more often making the game somewhat harder in that way isn't an issue, but what is is having 3-4 spawn at once and getting completely wiped out in under ten seconds. People in VS should be rewarded for that sort of thing, but when AI specials do it it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Both games are ruind by their awful community the fist one more then the second.
You can talk about animations and whatnot all you want but if the key part of the game has devolved in too a bunch of try hard, hyper aggressiv wannabe pro's that suck out all the fun you could have out of the game, then that will drag an otherwise amazing game down to a bad game.
This is why i consider Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 to be bad games.

@Teh I am going to give the same advice I've heard many times before "play with friends." I have maybe two groups that I play with on a regular basis. Otherwise I just play single player and download mods from the workshop. While I like to win, I also know that winning a game won't improve my resume or count for class credits. In terms of the

, I partially blame the scoring system in the first game. Personally I haven't had to deal with any really psycho players recently. Maybe I have just been lucky.
