Left 4 Dead 2 Crash

My Left 4 Dead 2 keeps on crashing in mid of game play while I was shooting zombies, and I don't know what is causing this crash, any ideas?

I have an Alienware M18x Intel core i7-2920XM GPU@ 2.50 GHz

L4D2 crashed on me too, but only on a certain part, its during the intro cinematic for The Passing. It worked fine before, but I upraded to Windows 8.1, and as far as I am concerned, that seems to be the only part that it cuts out on me, and sends me back to my desktop. Any ideas why?

I have the same problem : any map, always crash et sends me back to my desktop with Steam out of service. I've passed on 8.1 yesterday

Same here. after update to windows 8.1 the game exit alone. also when press on (E) (USE Button) the game become laggy.

same here I've been having issues playing my left for dead 2 also and i also upgraded to windows 8.1 yesterday maybe its the windows 8.1 causing it cause before it was fine just a few crashes here and their go onto online before it was fine now i keep getting kicked out even online either steam needs to fix it so that left for dead 2 can work fine on windows 8.1 or windows needs to fix something involving steam
