Engine Error: failed to Lock Vertex Buffer
When I try loading up a game, I often get an engine error which crashes the game.
Engine Error: failed to lock vertex buffer in CMeshDX8::LockVertexBuffer

Not sure if it happened with official maps, bet definitely stable user made ones. I'm not sure if its a server problem but after a while I can normally load the map.

EDIT: All maps affected. Official & user-made.
EDIT 2: Reinstalling does not fix the error.

Anyone know whats causing these crashes?

Still not fixed? The fact that Steam can disrupt any game engine in a concern. That currently makes Steam malware and potential malware in the future.

Does this also happen to Workshop DLCs? I only have content from L4Dmaps atm.

Can we get the 0.5 developers left on L4D2 to fix this; it's happening several times a day now.

You can fix this by uninstalling l4d2 and deleting all of the left over files and folders then reinstalling.

Game folder is full of crash dump files with names like
1) (failed)left4dead2_assert_
2) left4dead2_assert_
3) left4dead2_crash_

Will try uninstalling a some point. But really Steam should undo the damage they have done.
