Nope. The Tank will not be able to catch up with you if you run directly backward from him. If you stop even for a moment or step to the side, incap is almost unavoidable.

You need full or green health and to be in an open area that you can strafe in. Just light the ♥♥♥♥er up with a molly and run, let it burn!!

you need to be 40hp or + to be able to outrun a tank of course if zombies sorround you and the tank comes you better clean them up fast or he will slap you

Left 4 Dead Wiki:

"The Tank is slower than the Survivors whose health are 40 or above, or under adrenaline effect. However, he can still catch on with them by carving a straight path whenever the survivors are not running perfectly straight backward."

I did not want to make a new topic, so I will use this one since it is about tanks.

I decided to post this message after seeing many noobs doing the same mistake over and over, and never listening, thinking they know how things work.

I just played with some people dead center map 1 (with 500 hours on their account, more or less, which makes you more or less noob in versus). They all decided it was a good idea to stay in the lift and not open the door after the tank has spawned (Tank spawned only once we reached the lowest floor).

First, this is a good idea only when the tank spawns BEFORE you take the elevator. You wait on the upper floor for the tank do die and then go down with the elevator. You can also wait a minute or two and then decide to go in the elevator, go down, and wait for the tank to die before opening the door.
(Of course, veterans know that you can glitch the tank and spawn it on the upper floor (in case the tank spawns before the survivors take the lift and while they wait for him to die).

HOWEVER, It is a very bad idea to stay in the elevator ONCE you reached the lower floor and ONLY THEN heard the tank spawn. Why? Because if you stay in the elevator and hope for the tank to die, it simply won't happen. The door will open itself before the tank has time to die (lose control) and the whole team will get ♥♥♥♥ed up in the lift. That is because the time it takes for the tank to lose control is longer than the time it takes for the door to open itself (again, onnly if the tank spawns once the elevator has reached the lowest floor).

It is a better option to open the door right away as you hear the tank music and get out before the tank has time to reach the elevator door, and then fight the tank outside the elevator or just bile him and outrun him (depending on what the team decides).
