Self add on issues
So I downloaded a Lightning skin for Zoey not on workshop but on another site and I'm unsure on how to install it. My add on installer is not working and says "You can't open the application 'addoninstaller' because it may be damaged or incomplete." I've tried putting it in the add on folder but it won't read because I assume it's not set up to be a workshop file. From this point, I'm clueless on what to do next.
Any help is appreciated and my opperating system is a Mac if this might make things more specific.
Thanks!

Put it in the addon folder, NOT addon\workshop. If that's what you did, then I don't know how it works on mac.
I don't know how Macs work with addons, it's not as concrete as PCs, but Left 4 Dead 2's addon installer as default never works. Never try to double-click an addon to install it from now on.
All addons, even those from the Workshop, are in a .vpk format, so if your Mac can understand Workshop mods, it will understand third-party .vpk file types.

If you've tried installing in the addons folder I assume you know the file path (Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\addons just in case) to copy/paste addon files to.
There is an issue with Macs where, if the file's name is too long, they won't recognize the file. So before you paste the addon into the folder, abbreviate it to something you'll recognize if ever you need to delete it later, just remember to keep the .vpk suffix.

I'm sorry I don't understand Mac interaction with addons well, but I hope this helps.
Thank you so much! What I did before was put the vpk file directly in the workshop folder and the game kept deleting the vpk file. Finally with some awesome advise, I put the vpk in the addon folder and it worked! Again thank you so much!
