I still don't get the infection
When you see the Cutscene after launching L4D, it says "2 Weeks since the first infection", which suggests it was one person who got infected before it started spreading, an experiment or caught virus?

When Infected run at you, they don't bite, when you die they don't scavage your body for food and they die after multiple or powerful bullet shots hit body. How does it spread?

Did you see 28 Days Later?

Did you see Resident Evil? L4D zombies seem to be infected by a cross strain of the RAGE virus and the T virus. They are just bad and need to be killed.

This is complicated but this explantation of the zombie virus should work
In No Mercy, there's a room that is made of glass with a dead body inside implying that this person was the first one with the infection,
we are not sure on how the infection was made...
but you noticed that the zombies punch and kick the survivors because they're immune to the infection because of their fathers genes and that the zombies can't infect them. the zombies are more likely to just beat them to death.
regular people would become zombies but there are more people immune to the infection out there
you can read more about the infection and the special infected here:

Thanks for the link Shadow234.

So the zombies are just frustrated that they can't infect Bill and the gang, thus they beat the crap out of them?

not to mention female survivors are rare

It might be an airborne virus. Since first infection might mean since the first confirmed case.

I'm pretty sure the "no biting" thing is just a game limitation. In The Sacrifice comic, Louis is bitten by a zombie. In that same comic, it's also strongly implied that the infection can be spread through the air.

I thought I played through some campaigns already but how are the survivors imune?
If they said something, it's hard to hear everything during campaigns.

Only got game.

The Survivors are Carriers, which is to say they are in fact Infected, but they don't show any outward signs of Infection. This is partially explained on the walls through the L4D2 campaigns and in the Sacrifice comic. They can spread the Flu to non-Carriers, which is why they must be quarantined.

I have only played L4D1 campaigns so far.

Ported campaigns rant on the back burner, Left 4 Dead did not provide a lot in terms of story. Left 4 Dead 2 provides most of the context for the Infection and any sort of apparent story line. The rest is either explined in the Sacrifice comic or just sort of left 4 conjecture.

Since it is called the Green 'Flu', I think it also spreads through the air. The zombies do also bite and scratch. But then, CEDA probably covered it up and just called it a Flu, it's more like rabies.
