Please Help :( Extremely Slow Loading Times for L4D2!
The loading times to begin to a new campaign, or transitioning from map to map are ridiculous for me! We're talking at least 3-5 minutes per campaign or map :( By the time I'm finally loaded, everyone else is already playing the game!

I've tried all kinds of things to shorten the time, but the only thing that works is updating my graphic card driver. Whenever I update my driver, the load time is probably 30 seconds or even less sometimes. Right now, even though my driver has been updated, the Steam Beta Client is telling me that it isn't the latest driver and once again goes slow as molasses when loading.

I've got a Nvidia GTX 550TI. I have plenty of space on my HD..619gb of free space. 8gb of ram is more than enough and a processor of 3.0 ghz should suffice.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to shorten my loading times? Any and all suggestions are welcome because I'm tired of pulling my hair out with this issue.

It sounds like it's either your hard drive or your network; do you have slow loading times in single player?

Loading as a single player is still slow..not as slow as when I'm playing with others but yes, it's still slow.

It's probably your hard drive, then. You can try the usual things like defragmenting, or check your hard drive for errors.

Well, what is the common loading time? When on single player it takes about a minute and a half...and when I'm playing with others it takes about 3-5 minutes. Would it still be the hard drive if it suddenly speeds up like lightening after I update my graphic card driver?

Try going to options>video>and set PAGED POOL MEMORY AVAILABLE to LOW.

This generally allocates less memory to visual quality and tells the game to focus more on performance and time. Basically, maps load faster.

Maybe it's all your options? (<------Aimless guessing)

My options are:
Widescreen 16:9
1280x720
Full Screen
No Anti-Aliasing
Anisotropic x16
Vertical Sync Disabled
High Shader Detail
Medium Effect Detail
Medium Texture/Model Detail
Multicore Rendering depends if you have multiple video card cores.
Paged Pool Memory Available: Low
So I tried everyone's suggestions so far...defraging my hard drive and changing the paged pool memory option to low helped. Now it takes about 2 minutes to load with friends, and a minute and a half to load on single player. Loading maps during campaigns takes a little over two minutes.

I want to know, what is the average load time for others? I have a friend that only takes 19 seconds to load and i'm like wth?! Anyhow, someone let me know please what their average load time is.
3ghz ok, but wich cpu exactly do u have and what is your internet speed? what are your ingame settings? did u put anything in your launch options? 19 seconds is not fast at all for loading new map in l4d2

You don't think 19 seconds is fast? I'd rather have 19 seconds than two whole minutes lol! What is your loading time if 19 seconds isn't fast for you?

I have an AMD A8-3870 processor. With my graphic card, i am able to run the game on high without a problem, but i set everything to a medium setting. Is there a particular setting that I should be changing to help the game load faster? And no, there is nothing extra on the launch options.

i would say some settings are in conflict, steam/pc. that cpu by itself is certainly good enough but its fm1 socket, idk, much about it but i know it have some specific setting that can be applied to it (in bios, corelation to gpu and ram...) also its very related with gpu. did u disabled cpu graphic card in bios? any way i doubt thats it. if on other games your pc works normal than concentrate on l4d2 and its settings. just to be sure, you can open task manager or some dedicated program for monitoring pc and see what it shows (ram usage, cpu usage, temperatures and so on). as much as in game settings goes what might have influence is multicore rendering and ram allocations. if u have 8gb, ram shoud be on high. that might be a start and lead to something if u said game loads faster when ram is on low. also try disabling all addons u have (if) and verify integrity of game cache.

Loading the game depends on quite a bit: your computer's processing speed, your computer's available memory, your internet connection, your proximity to the server (ping), the server settings, map sizes, etc. It has taken as little as 10-15 seconds to load a map to 2 minutes. I would suggest you make an arrangement with your friends not to leave the saferoom until you're all there. That's what we do.
