Odd texture problems...
Heya. I just got my brand spanking new PC set up, and the textures on L4D2 are...Well, they're weird for whatever reason. Could anyone offer any help? Thanks! (If it means anything, I'm using Linux)

Weird how? Are they missing, low-resolution, inverted? Just saying weird gives no information that anyone can use to help diagnose the issue.

Everything will be extremely dark, for example. (on the main menu, all the images for the different game modes are completely black) and ingame it's unplayable since most of the textures will be black as well. I've fiddled about with the video settings and such, and nothing really seems to change it.
Intel, NVIDIA, AMD? If Intel: s3 texture compression?

Ah, it's alright. I managed to get it sorted. I was missing something on Linux, heh.

Got the same problem on OpenSUSE : Black textures. Even on Portal.

What was missing on your Linux?
Thanks for the help

What was the problem and how did you fix it? My game is super dark too.

Please, just search these forums. This problem is very widespread and just recently posted. There are many threads about this problem. Why are so many people compelled to start a new thread rather than simply searching for a solution?

Haven't started any new thread myself :P Calm down :)

I may have found a solution but need to install back the games to try it out...

- check if Mesa is up to date
- install libtxc-dxtn

I'll post back if all's good.

Hopefully, SteamOS will eliminate most or all of the roadblocks preventing you cheap bastiges from playing your FTPs without paying ransom to M$.

Left 4 Dead 2 is not FTP, and I personally own Windows 8 at around $100... and own 7, and Vista, and XP... using Linux is about more than just the price of the OS, there's a ton of reasons. While not all games support it, it's still valid to use for gaming.

I never said you did. I was referring to the OP, AKA thread starter.
The OP simply needs to search the forums for his solution as I just did rather than starting redundant discussions.

And even if L4D2 was FTP... what would SteamOS changed on that ?

I didn't say it was, I was just making a sarcastic statement on yet another unnecissary thread. Please don't take it as a personal attack because you wear the open source OS as a tag. If you did, I apologize, not my intention at all.
