Left 4 Dead 2

Vis statistikk:
OpenGL as a renderer on Windows?
http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/linux/faster-zombies/

And I quote: "Left 4 Dead 2 is running at 315 FPS on Linux. That the Linux version runs faster than the Windows version (270.6) seems a little counter-intuitive, given the greater amount of time we have spent on the Windows version".
"Interestingly, in the process of working with hardware vendors we also sped up the OpenGL implementation on Windows. Left 4 Dead 2 is now running at 303.4 FPS with that configuration".

Valve, can us Windows users get in on some of this hot, steamy, OpenGL rendering please?

I get fewer FPS on Linux vs Windows...

i thought the game was capped at 300fps max, how do you go about having it so the frame rate can be capped or uncapped since i have tried fps max and it didn't work

fps_max [fps] - Limits the maximum possible framerate to the FPS specified. Has no impact on framerate performance (other than capping it). I recommend setting this to your monitor's refresh rate for smoother FPS, due to less volatile fluctuations (e.g. fps_max 85). Setting it higher does not increase overall framerate; this setting does not work the same way as Vsync.

Why ? They had 315 on Linux vs 270 on Windows. That's 16% improvement. IF that could be applied to Windows you yould get 35 fps if you now had 30 fps and that would not change much. If you already have 100 fps you would get 116 fps which you would never notice.

In fact the tell us that on Windows they were able to get 303 fps which would be only 12% increase ... and your would notice that even less.

Valve, spend your time on something else please ;-)

I for one wish they added the fps_max variable in l4d2, i cannot stand vsynch as it delays input and makes the aim / movement feel like im swimming

But yeh i guess the open_gl renderer would help a bit but not enough for most ppl who already suffer lower frame rates, i would be more interested in knowing if those frame rates dip more often on open_gl than compared to dx (ie which one is more concistent)

So it's a slight difference, but it's a difference nonetheless. I don't see why they can't just release it if it's working well enough. It really could make a difference for people with low-end computers.
