Persistent MOTD is a game killer
So many servers keep showing the MOTD when you join. When you hit OK it re-opens it and keeps doing it for a certain period of time. It's an absolute game killer because if I join at a sensitive part of the map I'll be standing still for about 10 seconds unable to control the player while I'm getting screwed.

If you run a server that does this, I hope you spill hot cocoa on yourself.

Also valve plz fix

From a comment from a rep I saw regarding the company that does this, Valve does not care. It's annoying too, I had two of those servers tonight, spent the last 45 mins looking for a way to block them/blacklist the servers.

addip <server ip> to block it.

I do not know what the server IP was, and I can't see a server history, everywher I are read so far state the "fixes" do not currently work for L4D2, only TF2 :/

Only horrible server owners, would do that.

Why was MOTD implemented in the first place? I've never seen it being actually read, the overlay appears while the player is already controlling the character, rendering him unable to move, and the team screwed if they depend on that player. Also, the Enter key closes the overlay, but on some servers it just reopens. Blocking the server is not a good option, the MOTD is anoying, but I still want to play, and the server will be listed anyway during game selection. At least the CPU should control the character while the MOTD is open (or any menu).

I never do that, I list only games. Still the motd appears, and the servers are listed as if they were normal.

Well listing lobbies has the advantage of starting a fresh game instead of starting in some bizzare situation where 90% you are either downed or black and white vision'd...

Can you imagine someone reading and scrolling the MOTD while the player is getting hit? It is a faulty feature, that should be removed. Even worse are the cases where the server spam ads through it.

I've hit this problem on server with some ad code in the MOTD that keeps popping up over and over. The last one i hit was I think named JenSen #11
I don't think addip does what you think (but I could be wrong) it would seem that its intended use is a server command to block users, not you connecting to a server.
Damn it valve. At the very least give us the option to disable MOTD. The server should never be able to interfere with user input. Especially when they're doing it for monetization.
I'd like to block flash in the motd, even tho the ads don't load it crashes the game

If they decide to keep it, they should make it work similar to the scoreboard. Just an overlay on the top right side of the screen that might sit their for 9 seconds, but you can still play while it is there.

Left for Dead 2 is one of the worst games to be interupted by a ad and made completely vunerable in. In a game about teamwork, having your screen blocked for 10 seconds lets the bots incapitate and ko a player while they're still panically trying to exit the message and help their friend.

They shouldn't take control away from the player without a bot temporarily take over while they're reading the message. Or block the whole screen, or be unclosable for 10 seconds.
