Suggestion for "Good Guy Nick"
Alright, here's a little suggestion I want to make to alter the requirements for the "Good Guy Nick" achievement for Left 4 Dead 2.

As a passionate gamer, I am always looking to complete a game and experience everything it offers the player. When I finished all achievements for Left 4 Dead 2, I was simply playing for fun after that. Until I had all achievments though, I was more or less an achievement hunter.

Call me whatever you want, and yes I know that I don't get anything for completing the achievements, but now that they are here, I want to get 'em all. Easy as that.

The only problem I have is this:

http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/487811888482495453/5B90172A65C345C24D9D510B2162E732CA7FC9AD/

Damn right, the "Good Guy Nick" achievement is the only achievement left out of all 70. You can obtain this achievement only if you own the game and play any campaign from start to finish together with a player who doesn't own the game, but plays it on an occasional "free to play" weekend. Now that Left 4 Dead 2 is totally free for all those guys who downloaded and added it to their library during this holiday, I fear that this gift will dramatically decrease the number of people who would like to "try" Left 4 Dead 2 before purchasing it if there will ever be another free to play weekend, making it practically impossible for us to get the "Good Guy Nick" achievement.

Now here's my suggestion to make a gift to those players who purchased Left 4 Dead 2 a long time ago as well: Make the players who got this game for free count to the "free to play" people, which would mean we could get this achievement on ANY upcoming weekend if we are playing together with someone who got the game for free from Valve this Christmas.

I know this is somewhat selfish, but I can't help myself looking every week into the forums to see if there's a free to play weekend for Left 4 Dead 2 coming up so I can finally get this achievement. To be honest, locking the achievement to a specific (and very short!) timeframe is just a horrible idea which should never again be used for future achievements.

Discuss!

I feel you man, i played like crazy last night to get it and no chance. I really think this need some modification, yea.

It isn't possible to get it at the moment because it's not weekend plus it's not a "free to play" timeframe. Those who download Left 4 Dead 2 now will keep it forever. They actually own it right now.

I just want Volvo to do some coding tricks in achievements system so it works. I don't know how, but they certainly do.

Yeah this should be changed.
Or the Achievement should be changed.
I mean those ones who got it should keep it but who doesn't it should be changed like:
"Help to finish 3 campaigns with other players" or something like that

I fully agree. I'm one of those that bought the game ages ago and Good guy nick is the only achievment I can't get. It bugs me to see that 99%.

Sorry for the bump, but I'd like to add that another reasonable solution would be to just do a free weekend every X months to allow people to get the achievement.

Of course, this might be problematic as other game dev/publishers wouldn't appreciate Valve throwing free weekends too often, but I'm sure they could at least work something out like do a free weekend yearly on L4D2's release day or something.

And while we'd still have to wait, we'd at least know that there would be a free weekend on a fixed date rather than just hope for something that may never come.

Edit: Saw this post in another thread:

They should change it to Help a noobie (50 hrs or less) through a campaign

It would help make it easier for noobies getting kicked off of servers left and right. The most relentless, unsympathetic gaming folk I've ever come across are L4D gamers.

I think that's a really great suggestion, would both satisfy us Achievement collectors and help people who are new to the game. Win - win right there.

When does the free weekend usually come around for this Achievement? When has it been the past few times?

I don't think there's a fixed date?...

I would guess we just have to check every friday to see if there's a free weekend or not.

That seems rather pointless, considering there is a separate achievement for the free Christmas players.

When ever the free weekend does pop up someone should post in here so that no one misses it on accident
