L4d is like a prison yard thrown to the wayside. Valve--the guards--don't care what goes on in it as long as it's keptquite and between them. VAC bans are nothing more than slaps on the wrists and a couple minutes in the time out chair.

DDoS protection is what the servers need along with srcds exploit blocking (another form of dos)

The attacks used are scalable so there may have to be some serious protection to stop attacks that run under UDP (which is a stateless protocol) via DNS for eg, it is a cat and mouse game of capacity (scale).

Not sure valve care or can fix the issue though, if it is actually a problem with their server and or client software?

A better idea is just to get enough regular players to block him....that way he can't join a game with someone who has him blocked. Eventually enough players will block him he'll have a hard time finding a game to ddos.

They get your steam client ID and use a database server to query what server your client is playing on from what i recall, and then they have that server you are on targeted by a DDoS. They don't even need to be in the game for this.

I used to get this (I used it to my advantage by joining games with trolls in it ) but it was a nightmare lol

I notice my hosting goes from 1ping to 5ping on lan hosts alot lately. And had one person say he was on mic, and soon as he left ping went from 5-1 again. I reported him of course and blocked. I keep getting tons of weird commands as well in my console. I've seen bots endcap me and other players and themselves and no one even be in game. Bots refusing to help players or me when alone and I mean the console spams it won't help when they are right next to me. I keep seeing people join not all but some that says they are trying to upload certain files. I set it to sv_pure 2, sv_pure_kick_clients 1, sv_pure_trace 1. I just want a fully fresh vanilla game that isn't modded out and people glitching constantly or using 3rd person, but it always gives me file errors that i'm missing something here and there even though i've verified game cache even though I should have all legit files.....I swear there is a trolling community attacking people..I know Left For God community is a bunch of griefers who only play with each other...so wouldn't surprise me if theirs people out there hacking (ddosing including) other games.

I see vac-secure...but i've seen a few people who had no profiles or games just blank accounts able to join....i block all people i run into like that..but it seems like theirs alot of "funny" stuff going on lately on L4d2...

LOL RIGHT? I could only ever dream of ping less than 25, and routinely fluctuate between 40-70 under normal circumstances. International play can leave the whole team dealing with 160-220 ping in my experience.

Its only a crime if you dont have permision you can "test" your own proctetion this way
Also your gonna struggle to find who did the DDoS with proof as IPs are genrally spoofed.
