[Rant] I Remember When Versus Was Fun And Competitive
^ That was in Left 4 Dead 1 on the Xbox.

Sooo, 99% of versus games I join midway, my team is already being slaughtered (point-wise and/or literally). So I leave and keep trying to Quick Join until I find a match where I'm not already dead/losing horribly. After many tries, I say f*ck it and I try to join a lobby instead so things will start off a little more fair, right? It's just me and the host waiting awkwardly and watching people come and go because the lobby is almost dead empty and don't want to wait. Three minutes later it's still just me and the host. Eight minutes later it's still me and the host. Ten minutes- Wait, someone joined and didn't leave right away! They even picked a character to play a- and they're gone...

By some awesome miracle, when I manage to join a fresh Versus game from the start, people already start getting the urge to vote for random sh*t like changing the campain and kicking players (me) for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Well I'm banned from that server and back at the main menu. For some reason I continue to retry playing versus because I remember how fun it was back in middle school when me and my friends would play til late at night in versus and the fun would never end. So when I eventually succeed in joining a versus match, getting a decent team, and not getting kicked, my game crashes. Well, I guess that's something out of Valves control.

If I manage to somehow join another good versus game (raaare), there is always this mysterious lag that likes to occur at the oddest of times... like when my team is doing really good, which would inevitably leave the game unplayable (to the winning team at least) so everyone starts leaving and I'm playing with mostly bots now until new r3tarded players started joining. I leave, and again I'm back at square one only to have enough ethusiasm to play campaign or do something else.

I guess versus is only a good memory now and currently something I don't want to even look at anymore, kind of like Cartoon Network.

The only reason I play Versus is because playing as the SI is fun. Other than that, it's a cesspool.

I avoid games such as when my teams score is 400 and the opponents is 1000. No point in playing,

It's more of wanting a fair game where there's worth playing, joining a landslide isn't too fun.

Never got to experience versus well myself, I got the game christmas and from the bit I tried it's just awful because of how whiny some people are and the poor balance of players. You usually have the versus experts who know every trick, dangerous spots, and how to set up or avoid witches properly. And then you have people who aren't as good and just get dominated from simple tricks, such as a death charge. Granted this really wouldn't be bad as pubstomps are to be expected but a lot of players get really angry at this game fast and it makes a poor learning experience for anyone new as you'll get kicked pretty fast.

You will rarely, if ever, get a good match out of public versus because of all the reasons you already know. It is never the same 8 players from start to finish, the skill gap is too high, and trolls are abundant. You never know if your Random Team is playing against an Arranged Team. People leave the safe room before both sides have loaded in. Score means absolutely nothing in public versus games.

If you want serious, fun, competitive matches of Versus, you should look into the ProMod community.

Yeah I definitely feel motivated when my team is losing by 1200 points

I'd just like to note again that this is exactly the problem with "kicking due to incompetence".
Even if a game is balanced between the two teams, as soon as the first person is kicked, that balance is destroyed. The result is a team that grows increasingly inferior, until quitting is not ragequitting but the only reasonable action for the remaining players.

i recomend you to try competitve games, the versus you join no are competitive because 99% of the playersin l4d2 are bad and don't play good, so if you want a good game try promod, is who the pro gamers play and tourneys use this mod so try this but make sure you has good in this game because no one wants bad players in promod, valve need to make some things to the default versus game be playable, like its locked after you finish the campaings, so no one will join first time in versus, and ban for a period of time people that rage quit games, i think valve no take this game serious even if have tourneys and much pro players, is not like cs go or dota 2

Looks interesting but idk about all the other extra tweaks to the match the author forces into it. I'm fine with the gameplay mechanics as it is, I basically just want to play with people who stay in the game, don't do incomprehensible stupid sh*t, and don't DOS the server as soon as they start losing. Not to mention it also looks like a pain in the a$$ to get going just for a server mod: http://www.l4dnation.com/wiki/ProMod_Installation

Install this, install that, install Confogl, then install ProMod. Eegh.

That only applies to people who want to run their own ProMod server. If you just want to play ProMod, you don't need to install anything. You just join a few relevant Steam Groups, learn some console commands, and then that is pretty much it. There are a few ingame commands to learn as well, like !ready, !unready, !spectate, !tank, !current, etc.

You cannot have your cake and eat it too. If you want serious players then you should understand that the gameplay changes are necessary because vanilla versus is heavily imbalanced towards survivors. The people who author ProMod do so based on the feedback from the community. It is essentially the Confogl mutation but constantly updated by the community. In addition to all the balance tweaks, scoring is a huge part of what makes ProMod meaningful compared to vanilla or Confogl versus.

Look at the changelog. It looks like it balances some things like damage, health, items, etc. etc.
