Petition to Valve for Slow Classic Zeds {Mutation}
This petition is formerly asking Valve, to add a Slow version of the Common infected. One that would stand next to a Romero zombie and be proud of itself. The addition of Slow zombies to L4D2 would entirely change the type of game, it would also allow for more creative and slow movement through maps which adds a little immersion while making it feel like you are actually surviving.

Anyone who would like to see this feature added official by Valve to the L4D2 workshop please sign this thread.

Couldn't you make a mod with slow zombies?

Don't sound like too much fun to be honest; L4D was always a fast paced action game, slow zombies make the game way too easy and you can't just crank up the difficulty by adding more zombies - there is a limit to how many the engine could render before it gets fuzzy.

Yes zombies are meant to be slow.. if they are undead.
These are rabid people. So they can move quickly.

This isn't a actual zombie shooter, like resident evil(minus 4, 5, and 6.)
So things like slow zombies, or legless zombies wouldn't fit, because even a rabid person would bleed out and die.

I've looked into it, i've tried to put a small group together but it seems a lot of work for something so small.

The only obstacle holding back this is lack of a slow walking zombie animation. It would be easy enough to rip one from another source game and apply it to the Common Infected models but so far I lack enough knowledge to do so.

Don't get me wrong the Fast Zombies are what makes L4D2, but after so many hours.... one wants to slowly explore the map, maybe building barricades while you scavenge for supplies..... it would so easily turn it into a Dayz hybrid. We just need an animation.

It would still be a start, at least then you could see if the concept is even fun at all, and if it becomes popular, Valve might even pay attention. Ideas are cheap, execution is everything.

As for diffuculty, you have a few options.

1. Make the CI have more HP
2. Headshot's only to kill them
3. Both, Half dismembered corpses walking at you soaking up bullets unless its a headshot. Cut off their legs with an axe? They will slowly crawl towards you.

Wouldn't it be really creepy knowing where ever you go, there is probably one straggler constantly on your trail. Maybe legless maybe armless either way it would be just like in the classic movies.

Thinking about it, having a mixture of Fast and Slow zombies would mean you can deal with the fast horder quickly, but left behind are the Real undead who will stop at nothing to eat your brains, and are actually a real threat when they get close.

Even if you have the talent to make a dismembered corpse crawl towards you, I don't know if the engine would be able to support this. Also, every fight with a large number of Zeds will just end up with the players picking off the hordes of crawling zombies that weren't shot in the head the first time.

Common zombies should be killed easily, throwing hordes of enemies with high HP is a crime against gaming.

You see how terrible that looks? Ew I would rather no slow zombies looking like that..... and all it would take is a simple animation.

Animations are in HL2 for that :/

But that slow shambling horde of certain doom edging towards you would really make this a horror game.

Yea because they're so scary they have a screen time of say ~3seconds before they're dead for good? Really L4D set out to mimick the best of bad horror movies, but slow zombies create tension no others could...
