Yes, except this has to be done every single time before the game is opened up. If you want to continue playing on servers of course.

Yes, but the way arranged it causes me almost no hassle at all. I added Left4Gore as an external program and added the command line "/launchl4d2"... so I just start that instead of L4D2 itself.
The only thing I can think of this doesn't allow is "Join Game" from the friends list.
