How do you feel about people with Mics?
As a half mic half keyboard user, I'll be that person you don't know had a mic until 10 minutes into the 3rd part of a 5 part I say "watch out for that jockey." How do you feel towards the different kinds of mic users? Are there certain ones you would rather play with as oppose to others?

As long as the person doesn't spam the mic so much I can't hear my surroundings..

Or the guy with the keyboard doesn't pause every 10 seconds to type something unimportant. I don't mind,

If someone does not use the in - game voice properly I just mute them. Easy thing to do really. And it's not a total loss either, because most of the people on my friends list & myself have a Ventrilo channel. Mute the bad voice users. But get to keep the communication. I love it.

Microphone Abusers/Offenders:
1. Push-to-talk disabled while TV/fan/noise is in background. Instante votekick/mute.
2. Blasting music while playing. We don't need to hear your Miley Cyrus.
3. Raging with incoherent profanities. If a random person on the internet can get you mad to the point that you feel you need to raise your voice, you lose at life.
4. Small talk/idle conversation between strangers. I don't care about your cat, your kids, or your husband.

For the most part, I prefer people who use mics, and I have more of a problem with people who do not use mics or cannot hear those who do. If something is communicated via voice chat and you do not respond and you ignore it, then that is a problem. The biggest issue that this game is heavily reliant on sound for hearing incoming attacks and not getting capped by an SI, so voice chatter should be kept to a minimum, and conversation other than conveying game-relevant information should occur between SI spawns.

I've lost count of the number of times I've died two feet from a teammate while saying on the mic "I'm smoked. I'm smoked. I'm smoked. I'm smoked. I'm smoked," only to get a written reply a minute later "Sorry didn't know you were smoked."

i prefer mics. i use mine all the time. "pills by me" "med kit"
i hardly notice the typing until it's going away. if i call out a med kit and no one comes i assume they are playing with no sound.
as for convo, it's fun when you get people who joke around. i don't like having to be serious all the time in the game. sometimes we are laughing so hard we all die. but you gotta have the right group of people for that.

I'm typically one of those players who is usually quiet unless he calls-out "medkit by me" or "pills" or whatever else I'm standing next to. I also use my mic to call-out if I am being attacked by a SI or if I'm about to do something that could potentially harm my teammates, thus giving them the chance to back-up or get out of the way; however, if there is someone in the server who is joking around casually, I usually make that an exception because like bunnyrut said, I do like my games to be a little lively. This usually leads to me joining-in on the joking.

On the other end of the spectrum, I can't stand people who spam their mics. Idle conversations, music, background noise, profanity.... for me, all are insta mute. Which is a shame because I never know if they may say something relevent to the game or not later on. The only time I tend to let it go is if it's me and a friend and we're playing purely for the sake of just messing around and being idiots (which is usually done in a private game). But when I want to play a game normally, the only things I care for are relevent information to the game and casual joking (and I mean joking.... not trolling).

All that being said, I cannot express how much it frustrates me when people don't pay attention to mic users who are trying to convey important information. I'm a little indifferent when it comes to items... if people don't want to pick them up, then so-be-it. If they die, it's because they chose to ignore me. If they're experienced to the point where they don't need it, then good for them. But when it comes to things like being attacked by SI, then I expect someone to respond BEFORE I'm dead.

There are different species of mic users. I will list my opinions on the main ones.

1) The tactical player
• Tells his teammates where items are, gives them advice, and helps lead the group
+ good

2) The friends
• Have irrelevant and usually comedic conversations with eachother
+ If conversation is funny, passable
- If conversation is awkward, strange, or loud, bad

3) The dirty mic
• Tries to say something but can't because their mic is broken or their mouth is too close.
- painful

4) The rager
• Appears as the "tactical" player at first glance, but starts getting mad when someone makes a mistake. They can usually be detectedby having a higher ego.
- bad

5) The wallflower
• Has a mic, but only uses it when they are about to be kicked/trolled
+ good

6) The spammer
• A random person who uses the mic who happens to be a kid
+ if the kid is nice, then passable
- if the kid is whiny or cocky, painful.

5) The DJ
• Plays music into the mic
+ if music is from death note, attack on the titan, zelda, or silent hill, good
+ if music is classic rock, good
- if music is anything else, bad

My ideal team is:
• Myself
• A non mic user
• A tactical player
• And a death note DJ

Anyone that has constructive things to say, either about the game, the players, or life is fine by me. So long as they are not hostile about it. Friendly is fine, I don't mind it if people chat during simpler moments. If we are a group of friends playing, I don't mind things like music or singing, because I already know how your playstyle is, so I don't have to guess at what will happen.

Normally I don't bother with the mic. I like to keep a little bit of separation from the game, and often my GF is studying nearby and I don't want to disturb her. I do listen actively, however, and respond to the needs and requests of other players. And I'm generally pretty aware of what's going on, don't need to be "told" to go and help someone.

If I'm in a game where the other three people are mic'd, or a high stakes game where keyboard isn't sufficient, then I'll mic up no problem. But typically I'm good with the occasional keyboard message.

I am fine with people who have mics. I dont like people who are controlling. I'm alright with friends talking. except when they are flirting and they call each other babe and ♥♥♥♥ like that. that just gets akward for everyone listening. I especially dont like it when people say obscene ♥♥♥♥ like "Oh i just got A** F***ed by that jockey" or just keep talking about stupid ♥♥♥♥ that no one wants to hear.

I made myself a set of radial menus which contain all the voice bits I found relevant
(Move = "Wait", "You take the lead", "Follow Me", "Stay Together" etc;
Speed = "Let's Go", "Be Careful", "Hurry", "Run!" etc;
Mood = "Thanks", "You're Welcome", "Good Job", "Laugh"; and
Warnings = "Look!", "Tank!", "Witch!" etc).
Contains pretty much everything I'd ever say on mic anyway.
