Playing L4D on L4D2 ??
After spending some quality time playing L4D1, I started L4D2 and noticed the 1's map were on there too. So my question is, out of curiosity mostly, can you still do the achievements on 1 while playing 2 ? And can you play with someone playing 1 ?

No. It's pretty much same achievements, just changed up alittle.

Like instead of rescue a survivor and help them back to the saferoom.
It's leave saferoom, defib someone in versus and help them back to saferoom.

Instead of Crown'd its Clown'd.

And no, 2 different games. But if you miss the classic play of just boomer, hunter and smoker, go to mutation and play the classic left4dead 1 versus or campaign.

But no, achievements and connection to l4d1 doesn't exist.

Pretty much this, but with the counter of if you have Left 4 Dead and want to play Left 4 Dead, play Left 4 Dead over the L4D2 "classic" mutation. It's like taking a knock-off over a Rolex watch when given the choice.

In addition, the ported campaigns differ from the originals in certain aspects and actual hard-coded game mechanics, which makes a "time machine" connection impossible.

They are two different games. You cannot get achievements from L4D1 by playing L4D2. You cannot play with someone who is on L4D1 if you are on L4D2.

That said, if you want to experience what L4D1 is like while playing L4D2, you can check out custom configs like Retro (or Throwback, I think), which try their best to emulate the L4D1 experience.
