Magnum.

has range, infinite ammo, 1 hit kills commons even in realism, with strong power behind it.

I'd say probably the M16 Assault rifle, it does a decent job at everything, but really doesn't stand out at anything either.

It's damage is good, it's useful for taking down hordes, it can snipe if you stand still, and it slows down tanks when you shoot them. It's downsides is the lack of specilization, it can't crown a witch, quicksnipe a far off target with a headshot. And while it has better accuracy than the ak-47, it can't one shot common infected on normal.

Generally when you're looking for a all around weapon, you usually want to combine it with your secondary to get the most coverage.

___Secondaries__

-Dual pistols -Good in any situation where a machine gun would be useful. They have great damage, a decent sized clip, and are best used for taking on small hordes of 3-10 zombies, however their running and standing accuracy barely changes, so they're not ideal for sniping, but good for shooting on the move. However they fire only half as fast when you're downed.

-Magnums - Magnums have 8 shots, one shot commons, and have projectile peneration. They're great for clearing out hallways and often end up taking down two targets when you fire into a horde. But make each shot count, or else you'll burn through your clip and have to spend 1.75 seconds reloading.

-Melee weapons - Used to clear out hordes around you, esspecially useful for rushing, being boomed, or protecting yourself. I find that for melee weapons, the swing arc is more valuable then the swing time. My favorites are the fire axe and katana, but the machete is also useful if you want a faster weapon.

Choose your secondaries to cover the weaknesses of your primary.

o Sniper rifles + Melee(For protecting yourself) or Dual pistols (Ammo conservation)
o Shotgun + Pistols for long range. (Choose your favorite, magnum or dual pistols.)
o Machine gun + Melee(Hordes) or Magnum.(Hallways)

This is all assuming you're playing normal/versus though. If you play easy, then use dual pistols since they're already one shot kills on 30 hp commons. If you play Advanced/realism then the duals need 3-5 shots to kill a common, and you'll want to use a magnum instead so you can one shot them.

Honestly, I play entire campaigns with the Magnum pistol. If I find one early, I'll barely even use my primary weapon slot unless I find an M60 or a launcher. My absolute favorite is to lug an M60 around, preferably with special ammo loaded (either one, but frags are better in general), and just completely ignore it while killing everything I see with the Magnum. Then you break out the M60 when you run into a Tank, a never-ending horde, or some equally dangerous situation.

For the other primary weapons, it'd probably come down to a tie between the AK, the military sniper, and the semi-auto shotguns (either one; with the spread differences, they're both useful, just for slightly different things, and it's a trivial difference anyway). The AK is nice anti-horde, and extremely good if you find a laser sight. The sniper is mostly just for headshotting that annoying Smoker that spawns 300 yards away and harasses you for several minutes without staying exposed long enough to die (Magnum also works fine for this, I don't normally carry both weapons). Shotguns are just situational.

The M16 is nice and I enjoy using it; my only real gripe about it is it takes dramatically longer (and far more ammunition) to kill heavy things like Chargers and Tanks. I'm not a big fan of the hunting rifle, and I absolutely hate the SCAR. I'd rather use a basic pistol than the damn SCAR. It'd be SO much better if it used an actual 1-3 round burst mode instead of the forced 3 rounds, so I wasn't consistently wasting ammunition on targets that don't need 3 hits while using the weapon with the longest magazine reload time in the game.

For melee, I'm not too picky so long as it's not a baton. Screw the baton. If I have my pick, I'll take a fire axe or a frying pan.

personally. the best gun, is the one with ammo.

ive killed tanks with a pumpshotgun, dual pistols, magnums, silenced smg, grenade launcher.

but id say Soreasan is right. M16/Rifle has great power, good range, good accuracy... is all around.. mind my french.. quite the Spiffy weapon

Unless you get the stuffed cat mod for the baton XD

What exactly do you mean by "great power?" Not being sarcastic, I'm genuinely curious. The only weaker weapons in the game are the little SMGs. Even the basic pistol does more damage per shot.

it gets me kills faster than ak-47's for me.
but that may be because its spread is smaller.

but your right, not great. but i meant decent power, just forgot to change that word
I would say the AK is a great all around weapon. Maybe the best. It has more power than the M16. Not as much accuracy but it makes up for it in stopping/killing power. You don't necessarily have to be accurate with it either. Just spray and pray sometimes will do the job. Even in versus. 1 Hit kills with zombies and only a few bullets more with specials.

Depends on what type of shooter you are.
- If you like blood, gore and close combat, use shotguns and melee weapons. Be careful when using shotgun+melee combo, as you don't have anything to attack at a long range. Best weapon to use is the Combat Shotgun (tighter spread, more damage per pellet, and better range than the Tactical shotgun)

- If you like picking on Infected at a long range, use the sniper rifles. They are great for gunning down tanks if assault rifles can't reach them. Your are also able to keep count on how much ammo you are using since they are semi-automatic. In other words, you won't have problems with ammunition. Go for the Hunting Rifle (More movement accuracy, and great for gunning and running at the same time. Add the laser sight upgrade, it would be killer)

- If you like both close range and long range killing, go for the assault rifles and/or sub-machine guns. They may be weaker weapons but have the fastest rate of fire among all weapons (SMGs are faster). Be careful though, your ammo will deplete very fast if you have the habit of spraying full-auto. Fire in 2-3 round bursts (Combat rifle will always fire in 3-round bursts) to conserve your ammo. I recommend using the M16 Assault rifle (Fastest rate of fire among all ARs, moderate damage, lower recoil and good penetration)

- If you enjoy 1-hit KOs, your best buddies are the Magnum and/or the M60. Shoot the common infected wherever you want - they will always result in 1-hit KOs.

- Like explosions? Use the Grenade Launcher. Use that to make some zombie soup. Combine it with the bile bomb and propane tank, you will see those common infected exploding into pieces and ashes.

So, what type of shooter are you?
