Idea for new idle feature.
There should be an option for when your characters go idle, and that option should be to tell your idle self not to swap your weapons.
Like say if you lag out for like a minute or so, and your idle self throws away your SMG for a slow shotgun.
With this feature, you could be sure that when you got back in, you would still have your weapons instead of your idle self throwing them out for weapons you do NOT want.
You should also be able to preset which type of weapon you want your bot to use first.
Like if you tell them to use their pistols or melee, then they use those instead of their primary.
Or if you want your idle self to use primary first, then they will use the primary weapon untill it is empty, then they will switch to pistols/melee.
Also, I think that if this were ever put into the game, they would also need to programme the A.Is to use melee attacks incase their primary depleted it's ammunition and their secondary is a melee weapon.
I am unsure if bots can or can not use melee, but I think they can't because I have not seen one bot use melee attacks.
This would still not effect pills, adrenaline syringes, or first aid so that the idle characters would not be greedy if one of their comrades is injured.

I agree.

The bots are notoriously terrible for throwing away melee weapons and picking up (I regard as useless) "pistol" weaponary which I never use myself.

Bring it to the next level of being idle, or rather, forced idling I'll call it for the sake of it and that's if you get a phone call, a knock at the door. whilst idle is technically a good enough generic term other players may not look at it as you having to quickly go anwser your door when someone knocks, or when you get that phone call so an option to select from a list or an option to input why you are idling example: Idle (knock at the door), idle (phone call).

Eitherway, you bring up some good points which I'm inclined to agree with you on.

I also think "Taking medicine" or "Health issue" might be good ones.
Reason is because what if someone like has to go to their medicine cabinet and take their prescription or something?
Or if they have to stretch their legs out like every 30 minutes due to a blood clot or something.
That and if you're idle for more than 10 minutes it should kick you from the game.

Does it even matter, since the Bots will replace you anyway?

You dont even use the magnum?
I hate it when idle me throws away my pan and auto shotgun for *CRINGE* an ak and 2 pistols.

I am adept with all weaponry, but I prefer to keep the weapons I already have reskinned.
Like I have Alyx's gun as an SMG reskin, and a nice 50. cal magnum reskin, then my idle self throws both of those out for dual glocks and a hunting rifle.
I do have Socom pistols from MGS for the glocks, but I prefer the magnum for when I have an SMG.

To be honest, I wish there was no idle feature in L4D 2 at all. I have come across a LOT of people who abuse it. They have the bot do the work for them instead of learning the game themselves. It's really annoying. If people are going to idle so much then they should leave. So another player can come & want to play the game.

I think even the non-idle players should be able to control the bots behavior in some way.

Never used the magnum although alot of people on my firends list use it regularly. I see it as a glorified pistol - Pistol on steroids. I'm just more a melee person when i'm surrounded and getting hit by the horde since i find the melee to be far quicker and effective but that's just a preference of mine.

The pistols/magnum is just not for me, though, when I did first play l4d2 the pistol was used often as i felt the same way about melee weapons back then as I do about pistol weaponary in the game now.
