Not getting witch/horde alerts
You know how when your Louis bot goes stupid and triggers the witch by standing next to her, unmoving, and then the screen says "Louis startled the Witch!" Or when your idiotic teammate with 3 in-game hours runs up and breaks the glass on Dead Center and the screen says "Captain Tardface triggered the horde!"

I don't see any of those alerts and haven't in like 18 months. It just stopped happening one day despite changing no settings. It's been this way across two different computers and three operating systems, to say nothing of the number of times Steam and L4D2 have been uninstalled and reinstalled. It's not a mod issue; it happens in the vanilla game.

It seems like it HAS to be some sort of a toggle setting, but I've never seen one. I've posted about it before here and no one's ever had a solution. Anyone have ANY idea how those alerts got turned off? My life just isn't the same not knowing which of my idiot teammates accidentally triggers the horde.

Also has Steam turned to crap for anyone else? I'm getting logged out every 40 seconds or so.

There's a thing called "Instructor". It gives you the hints about weapons and car alarms, and maybe it also show info about teammates and triggers - i can't say for sure. You can turn it on/off in multiplayer menu.

Probably this, it's just supposed to be a crutch until you learn the sounds anyway, both the witch and horde events are very loud.

Doesn't it depend on the difficulty level whether you get those warnings?

I don't believe it's that, just because I've had the instructor disabled sonce like a week after I installed it.

Likewise with this, I've been playing on Advanced/Expert for ages.

This is why it confuses me, I didn't change anything or edit any settings. It just stopped working.

It must be this option you disabled maybe or L4D2 disabled itself. (I had an issue some days ago when the texture setting went from alone from middle to high.) If not, try to verify your game caches but you probably did it.
