Practically every mod conflicts. Eventually.
Has anyone else noticed how mods will randomly conflict with each other? I had two weapon mods, a SCAR mod and a VSS Hunting Rifle, that conflicted even though having nothing in common.

Any help?

Nope.
Maybe those mods of yours were updated and something in the update caused a conflict. Outside of that, I have no idea why they'd just randomly start conflicting with one another.

How do you know they don't have anything in common? Have you opened both files with GCFScape to inspect their contents?

VPKs like those work by overwriting vanilla files. If you have two weapons mods that both overwrite a default .txt file, one will take precidence over the other. This doesn't always lead to both mods being broken though. Ususally one will work and the other won't, depending on the order the mods are loaded. Rarely they can coexist without problems, like when custom campaigns that are split into parts will be listed as conflicting. Therefore the conflict message should be taken as a warning, not an error in itself. But there are times where you either have to choose one or the other or edit the two together manually because there is no way around it.

Background: I made a L4D2 HUD that "fixes" the position of the survivors health bars and people constantly complain they can't use it with mods like "Red Dot Crosshair" that work by also modifying the same file.
