Mac version - internal and plug-in mics not working

They work just fine when I test in System Settings, Steam, AND in game. The voice chat icon appears, so it's definitely receiving input, but nobody hears me.

I've seen this issue dating back to 2010 with CS:S and TF2. In the 25-page thread from 2010, it looks like TF2 finally received a fix.

Is this a widespread, reported issue for L4D2 on Mac as well? Has there been a fix? I know it is not my mic or my system, as it works perfectly fine in other applications. Not a TF2 player, so I haven't tested it there, but in FaceTime, Skype, GarageBand, etc I have no issues with my mic.

So weird. And I'm tired of getting booted from games for "not communicating".

ETA: I'm running a mid-2011 iMac with Mavericks installed and up-to-date.

I dont have a mac, but you can try to add set launch option: +voice_forcemicrecord 0
Since your mic is working and not ingame, the game probably does something to your mic input.
