Black Screen after launching
I click play button, l4d2 starts to load but i just get a black screen, i can hear staem giving me a message but cant alt tab out to see the message, if i press return the message goes and game loads as normal.
thats not to much of a problem but it seems to slow the level loading times and can only play one game before i have to restart game to play another campaign, only started doing this after a update or so ago, i have checked file integerty reinstalled both steam and game but still seems to happen, any ideas?

I've had a slightly similar issue after editing the console to enable controller usage, where the game screen would load black with audio working, but only after playing a lot in a few days or a week. The only solution would be waiting a few days or longer to be able to play again and then after a while it would reoccur, even re-editing the console wouldn't solve it.

Maybe check that there aren't any launch options but that may just make it worse as it did for me. For me reinstalling saved the issue but then I had to delete the 'console' setting from launch options to be able to access VAC secured servers, bc by their logic the word 'console' roughly translates to 'insecure' (the whole reason I had console set was to try to edit it to fix the problem). Then deleting the 'console' launch option made the problem reappear, and even if I mess around with the launch options more it won't fix it.

Tl;dR: consider changing console/launch settings.

i reinstalled my system today, and was getting a black screen. turns out it was a UAC prompt for the add-on installer. running the game with -windowed allowed me to confirm the prompt, and now i can start in fullscreen without issues. it could also be an invalid resolution problem, which you can fix once you're in windowed mode.

i've solved mine just earlier by reinstalling and then deleting cookies to clear the launch settings. should have tried that earlier tbh
