The Workshop does that. For probably a number of reasons. Nobody has a solid fix.

Most (if not all) workshop mods have alternate versions on l4dmaps.com. If you install mods from there, you don't have to constantly wait for addons to download.

Almost 6 months gone and no fix. I see this all going the way of some famous money making console games. Yes I am 63 years old. By the vway I was dragged from the middle of gameplay while the addons "updated".

Here is the solution. Stop using Workshop (it is a mess) and start using Gamemaps.com

If you're using anything but maps the easiest thing to do is to copy and paste the vpk files out of your addons>workshop folder into its parent folder, addons, and then unsubscribe.

Be aware if you do this. Later on if you subscribe to one of these again, you will have 2 occurrences of that mod. Also note, the ones you move will not update anymore as they are not associated with Workshop.

This is true indeed, although mods that aren't maps shouldn't need to update anyways.

The workshop can be a pain.
