Can you get a virus from downloading mods on the workshop?
If not. What does Steam do to prevent that?

It is in one of the code of conduct thingys that uploading malware and stuff like that is punishable by bann. Also you could just read the comments and see if other people had trouble if you would like some extra security.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that since the file is in a special extension that only Valve games can use (.vpk) and isn't executable (eg .exe), they can't give you viruses because there's no way to install them.

Install Pumpkin Bombs T-Virus Anti-Virus Pipebomb Replacement mod then you will be fine. Maybe.

Never received one, don't believe it's even possible

Download only checked high rated mods. If a mod somehow does have a virus, it'll probably be taken down pretty quickly. Still it's very unlikely

You cannot upload viruses to steam workshop. Certain file extensions are not allowed.
