Nervous About L4D3: What Limits Have Been Reached -LONG-
I have accumulated over 6,000 hours in both L4D and L4D2. I was that freshman throughout high school whose parents got home around 10pm every night, and this was my way to keep entertained. I have never had so much fun playing ANY game in my life, and I'm very excited to hear about L4D3. However, I've grown loyal and attached to the series, and I honestly want to see what is best for the series.

Concerns:
>Characters
>Special Infected
>Weapons/Items

-Characters-
>If you watch who people choose in L4D2 as their character, it's probably going to go in this order:
-Ellis
-Nick
-Coach
-Rochelle
A majority of players enjoy Ellis. He is silly, optimistic, and his Keith stories, though a rare occurrance, brighten up everyone's face for a zombie-fighting story time. Nick is the stereotypical cynical lone wolf, and he's got a good shroud of enigma behind him to keep things interesting. Also, he's got a pretty dope suit covered in eyeballs and other gross-♥♥♥ sh*t. Coach and Rochelle, well, I personally LOVE Rochelle, but Coach and Rochelle seem like very "tossed in there" characters. By that, I mean that they had a lot of potential, but they were not executed well. For instance: Rochelle worked for a news station, yet you can't even tell that from her "classy" Depeche Mode shirt. You can deduct Ellis is a mechanic, Nick explodes with the gambler vibe, and Coach literally is... a... "Coach".

What I'm trying to say is, Valve has 8 survivors, but it feels like only 6 of them came to life. Bill, Louis, Francis, and Zoey were very well made and memorable, whereas on some days all the L4D2 survivors are left in the dust. Following the Cynic, Leader, Optimist, and Apathetic character model is a smart move, and mixing it up would definitely throw off a critical balance, but I worry that the next 4 survivors (if created even; I'd love to see L4D2 on those cruise ships) will not leave an imprint like the L4D2 survivors barely did, especially in comparison w/ L4D1's survivors.

-Special Infected-
My biggest worry, and my strongest point about the limits of the L4D series.
Split the infected into groups:

L4D1/ L4D2:
-Hunter/ Jockey
-Smoker/ Charger
-Boomer/ Spitter
-*Tank/ -
-*Witch/ -

L4D1 and L4D2 both have counterparts for Infected. Let me explain more in depth with these terms: Direct, Ranged, and Projectile.

Direct: Hunter and Jockey.
>Hunter: Jump to the direct spot (survivor), and they are pinned in a single spot (static) until saved or killed.
>Jockey: Jump to a direct spot (survivor) and they are pinned and can be "navigated" (dynamic) until saved or incapaciated (very well can't ride an incapacitated survivor!).

Ranged: Smoker/ Charger
>Smoker: Can pull target towards special infected from distance.
>Charger: Can push (or carry) target from distance.

Projectile: Boomer/ Spitter
>Boomer: Releases "projectile" (stream of vomit) that attracts the horde, promoting close quarters of Survivors to stick together for survivability. Used as an assist for "pinning" infected.
>Spitter: Releases projectile that promotes dispersion of Surviors, spreading them apart and promoting lower survivability. Used as an assist for "pinning" infected.

So, key words:
>Static & Dynamic
>Pull & Push
>Together and Apart

The only concern after that giant wall fo text if you didn't get my point is that what else can they do? Releasing 3 new special infected in L4D2 was HUGE. How creative but still "sane" will Valve go? They kept the same blueprints that worked wonders in L4D2 without completely knocking the game out of wack. Don't forget the whole concept of not only making them a challenge to fight, but making them fun to play as well.

-Weapons/Items-
Primary Slot: Primary Weapon (Shotgun, Assault, Sniper, *Special)
Secondary: Pistols/*Magnum/*Melee
Throwable: Molotov, Pipe, *Bile Bomb
Backpack: Health, Defib, *Incendiary, *Explosive
Consumable: Pills, *Shot

L4D2 added a lot of new weapons. From the original 7 (including pistols and minigun), new weapons made the sequel lots of fun. Weapons are not a concern. If there's any concern, it would be that Valve added a lot of weapons in L4D2, and they won't be able to deliver that in L4D3. However, how are they going to be able to add in another Throwable, Backpack, and Consumable? They have squeezed a lot of juice out of those slots, and they've done a fantastic job with what they have.

-Conclusion-
I love this series. It's been a big part of my gaming life and my life outside of just gaming. I hoenstly trust that Valve will do well, but I wanted to express my concerns. However, they are bound to create L4D3 when they can't milk much out of Dota 2 or TF2 anymore without a doubt, and I just wanted to toss in my 2 cents.

I would love to hear your input on this gigantic wall of nag text! :)

Untill Valve officially announce they're developing L4d3, I'm going on the assumption that l4d3 isn't going to be developed.

What platform did you accumulate the 6,000 hours? xboxlive? Another account on steam?

As far as I'm concerned, I'll carry on playing l4d2 (though I've drastically cut the amount of hours i play on this nowadays) since I've played it to death. I'll just wait on evolve and see how this game pans out as my alternative lfd fix.

Is anyone on 1,000,000 kills? its my goal but im only on 170,000. I play on a server that sends thousands of zombies, but steam only seems to count like 200 at a time. I've had the game since around 2009, but took like a 2 year break so, thats why my total kills is low compared to time played. Any tips?

Your game amount vs kill amount sounds about right. They don't seem low to me.

I'm at 2,913 games played >> 813,637 kills I suggest just keep plodding on with the game.

I generally don't play on public anymore, but with a friend, where we just dash the levels (we let people know in advance that we rush and they seem fine with it) our way of making it fun again, so to speak. At 1m kills I'll probably have forgotten I even posted on these forums. :)

2400 hrs (1900 hrs actual play-time)
I'm about half way there with 436,530 infected kills

They could as well just make the game f2p and sell community made skins, maps, guns, etc.

yes. very nice comment

2.0 HRS is a bit lower than 6K hours........

6k hours? Damn, and I thought I had no life.

(take this as a joke, it isn't meant to be serious)
