Random freezes on map change
600 hours of almost flawless game (not saying about common and well known bugs, glitches and oddities in L4D2) and finally we've managed to make some kind of friend-team, now game keeps screwing up. When it comes to map change (or going back to lobby, no matter how – campaign's finish, me exiting game manually or through voting), sometimes game just freezes my PC, forcing me to do a hard reset.
Copy-pasted:
AsRock 880GMH U3S3/Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB/AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz/Goodram CL9 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz/Vertex3D Radeon HD6770 1GB DDR5/Samsung SH-S182D/Aerocool VP-450 450W + Asus VW192s 1280x1024 60Hz
Vertical sync disabled (was on triple-buffered), page pool memory set to low (was on high), made freezing less frequent, disabling multicore processing also helped a bit, but problem still exist. The f♥ck is it, some kind of new feature?

Oh, WinXP 64-bit SP2.

Bump. Can't really play this game when in constant need to reboot your PC every single f♥cking map change or leave game just before it happens. Or should I burn my PSU and send a bill to Valve?
To me, problems like this come and go. Usually if you wait them out, they fix them self. It not, I would remove all addons and validate your files. If that doesn't work, delete local content then manually delete your L4D2 folders (important. Then reinstall.

Just you? Local hosted game by any chance?

Well I don't want to wait another 600 hours until it again starts to properly work. I would rather got a refund (yeah, hahaha, good joke).

Not really into an option with downloading again ~13 GB of data. Addons ain't the deal, I've tried it sometime ago without addons and still was freezing. And I don't even have any problematic addons there (some texture replacements, fixes for L4D1 Survivors, modded pistols, sounds and Lemmer's Improved HUD w/Health Counter). But I think I'm gonna redownload this week.

Yea, even on Single Player sometimes.

Hell, L4D1 never failed.

Who said it would take an additional 600 hours? Why would you need to redownload the addons again? Why do you ask for help then complain about what you get?
Just move the files from your addons/workshop folder, uninstall the game, delete, delete, re-install, add back addons.
You make it sound time consuming and difficult.
If you used Gamemaps.com rather than Workshop as I do, it would be much less work.

If it's even on single player (offline) it could be your hard drive.

Cause it worked like charm through 600 hours :P

Huh… Has only 2 years, but it makes sense. Especially that after some time textures screw up (e.g. L4D2 weapons became totally monocolor like whole pink or whole blue). Will make use of HDTune, should be somewhere on disc.

After some time your textures screw up- is this after you've been playing for a while?
Sounds like either a VPK conflict or a video card issue. Are you over clocking?

Texture issues does sound like gpu problem, could be overheating esp on laptop.
I don't think it is disc related.

Yea, after about, let's say 1 hour of gameplay. I even had screenshot uploaded somewhere, but not on Steam account (I got used to Fraps' F5 instead of Steam's F12).

No conflicting addons, I don't overclock.

It's PC :P

Will check it anyway.

Firstly I'll make a clean install of the game, redownloading it will take probably whole day with my internet connection (good enough to play, but a bit painful to download files bigger than 1 GB), so I'll probably will have a next day or two off L4D (at least from online play).

Thanks for advices and for answers at all.
Make sure you manually delete the L4D2 directories after the install. Make sure you unsubscribe from all mods. Turn off Steam Cloud.
Pangia 16. Juni 2014 um 14:42
Yea, it's clear, I didn't have any mods on Workshop and Steam Cloud was disabled, I had some problems with configs because of it earlier. Tomorrow I'm gonna, hopefully, reinstall L4D2.
Pangia 17. Juni 2014 um 13:34
Made a clean install, put safe addons which never made any problems. Still freezing.
