Casual versus mutation
I'm wondering if a casual versus mutation can do any good to the community. It has nothing different than the normal versus at all but to seperate casual (new) players from general public lobbies.

Edit:
It turns out vey easy to make. Here's the link:

I'm not asking Valve to develop a new mode. It's a custom mutation.
Thanks for the reply anyway. It's hard to get attention when I try to be constructive.

What exactly is your mod? There is a coop versus mutation out there inside Rayman's bundle iirc

It's exactly the same as versus. The script is completely empty. What I hope it does is to seperate people who like to try or practice versus with people who want competitive matches.
If it works as intended, noobs (as they call it) can go to mutation and fool around while tryhards (as they call it) can quick match without being worried about getting a bad team.

I dont think it will work, everybody will go for versus..
besides, theres no server support for mutations.(nowadays)

It doesn't require special server to support it. It's just like any other mutations in the game. You choose a mutation, then you can play it as the normal game except the tweaks.
It only works if people start to use that "mutation", which is not likely to happen.

So, how much servers out there do you think support mutations?
there are very few official servers.

All L4D2 servers should be able to run mutations. They are just script files tweaking how the servers handle the game.
I just created L4D1 co-op games on both official and best available servers. Can't test mine though since I'm the only subscriber and it's a versus mutation.

I believe what Blaquicat is saying is that, most dedicated servers for L4D2 mutations would be taken by more popular mutations?
And that servers require a gamemode setting to play (versus, scavenge, survival etc) and that you simply can't play this mutation on a normal versus server ?
I may be wrong..

As I understand, there's no difference on server end for mutations. Servers just see a lobby but with certain scripts telling how the game behaves.
I may just create a random co-op mutation and test it out.
Butters 3 jul, 2014 @ 19:19
I just tested. It turned out everything on my mind was wrong.
I cannot create custom mutation lobby on any server but only on local host.
Never mind then.

As I said, each server designates a certain gamemode to run. At least, as far as I know..

That was what im talking about.
Most of the servers run with sv_gametypes WITHOUT mutation, so.. you can create a lobby, but that lobby will probably never find a server.
