is voice annoying?
i used a turtle beach x12 when playing this game on xbox a couple of years ago and when in a lobby everyone got kicked if you didn't have a microphone/headset which is understandle as no way of communicating otherwise. i am gonna get another x12 today for peace and quiet from mad house and to enjoy the sound of the game better BUT i am reluctant about using the mic as i didn't really like it back then. i don't hear anyone on mic when i am in games as i cut that off and use to using keyboard now in games. what's it like to use mic in games on pc, are these people annoying, do you find it better and is there a lot of people using them? i am interested in your opinions on this. thanks

Not many people use mics from my experience, but aslong as you arent a 12 year old squeeker its nice to have someone talk in your team.

Yes.

Voice is extremely annoying.

I value my auditory experience. A lot of the time you can tell exactly where an opponent is due to footstep noises or other cues like the Special Infected "bacteria" music that plays when they spawn, as each SI type (Hunter, Boomer, etc) has a different musical cue. Or the growls and noises they make themselves anyway.

I cant hear that if some idiot with less than a potato for a brain is chewing on his microphone or mumbling some inane crap I dont care about. Or, the greater 50% of the time, its some supposed "friends" throwing around insults at each other that they somehow find hilarious, but to me it just seems insulting and derogatory. I dont want to hear it.

I am not a 'puritan' or anything like that. I swear too. But you know what I mean - You dont want to play a game when 2 or 3 members of your group are ~constantly~ saying crap like 'You're ♥♥♥♥in ♥♥♥♥ mate I'll wreck you you stupid ♥♥♥♥. Look at you ♥♥♥♥bag, get over here, come on you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ swag hobro m8'.

In every single game I play, I have voice chat turned off. And it stays off. If anybody, for any reason - in particular in TF2 - somehow manages to still be audible, I'll use the game menu to mute them directly. If they can STILL be heard, because they're the admin or some other rubbish, I'll just leave.

Voice isnt annoying. People that use voice can be annoying with it.

But anyone that uses Voice is a human. So unless we have other alien species to play games with, Voice is still universally annoying - because people are, sadly, annoying as hell.

This. Its not that big of a deal really. The only thing that gets on my nerves is people that don't use push to talk and sit there breathing the entire time..that's sort of creepy imo. Otherwise you can easily mute the one or two obnoxious people. I just find it easier to actually speak and ask for help rather than typing it.

ive always used a mic , only game i really use a mic on.

I think as long as you use it sensibly and dont have an open mic with annoying noises then people respond well to you using a mic. It certainly helps a lot , especially on the harder difficulties.

I've played hundreds of hours of L4D and never heard anyone complain about someone using a mic properly. Though i havent played for ages but certainly in the past it was well worth using one.

Not trying to be rude, but I have no clue what you just said...

I used to find it helpful when I first started the game, but it started to become annoying once I actually learned how to play (occasionally I use HLDJ to drown them out). Many players wont listen to you anyway, so if you decide to use a mic I recommend that you use it sparingly.

The only annoying thing aside from a 12 y/o screaming because he's getting ra#@& by a charger is Vocalize Spamming, which is resolved with this[forums.alliedmods.net] which requires sourcemod and the ability to add/upload files (assuming this is your own server)

If this is a common Steam Server, then may the Anunnaki be with you...

Also, another workaround (unless you have clients connected that you want to hear across the comm):

I was jockeyed right past my fellow survivor last night. Out a window, onto a ledge, and over said ledge. He was standing 3 feet away and i was calling out for help. He didn't move.
Then i see his 'typed' chat which consisted of 2 words...... 'Pro Dodge'.....as he had just juked a Charger.
Yes get a mic!....if you don't have one, please don't say anything, unless you can type 85 wpm.
