Why don't the steam stats update correctly?

i can tell you from first hand experience that sometimes the stats get skewed.
both my L4D and L4D2 stats are hosed having been mysteriously partially reset over the years.

L4D2 - my campaign and achevo's stats are both way out of whack.
L4D - my Survival mode stats were partially wiped. as were my campaign stats.
i used to care years ago, but not now. i'm just responding to show what happened to me.

Play the game, and dont care about that..
That only gives you a hint, or a clue, dont exaclty represent the real.

Mine says 100% survival rate on coop, its impossible.. but its there, it also some times add from nowwhere .. i never played 800 coop games.. barely 500.. dunno where those 300 come from lol..

Without mentioning the 1000hrs gap on my playtime/profile

It seems like the 100% survival rate is bugged out, especially on people with lower numbers of coop games. A friend of mine whom I have seen die in campaigns with has a 100% survival rate, but I know first hand that she hasn't survived every one.

Complete conjecture but idle hours may be dead/unspawned time too. There's probably some static ratio of idle to in game hours among all versus players, as well as some relationship between idle to in game hours compared against survival % (and other stats) for coop players.
