Why don't people use the Chainsaw?
I know everyone has their own weapon preferences, but it seems that in 95% of games I've played, everyone passes on taking the Chainsaw, even when there is a gauntlet event (DC stadium run, turn off alarm in Mall, etc.) just ahead where the weapon would absolutely excel in making quick work of massive hordes. It's slow to warm up, it has limited usage, I know; but it doesn't seem to get the respect it deserves in the many games I've played. I've more than once picked one up and saved the team in such run-to-the-saferoom-through-endless-zombies events and killed tanks with it. Come on. Friends don't let friends not use Chainsaws. :D

Good question.

Because I don't want to drop my dual pistols or Magnum for a chainsaw to use for 5 seconds. When my Primary is just as useful.

& its noisy and people don't shut it off if a teammate is near. I would rather not be sliced up by that thing, the constant screen shake is irritating.

I personally like snipers for those parts. Give me 1 partner, and I can cover the other 2 perfectly until they make it to the saferoom. If I die, I die. I did my job.

Primarily because by the time I come across one I already have the secondary I want to keep for the rest of the game.
Go old school, use the axe.

I don't want a hole in my chest cavity when I'm trying to pass through a tight space when a guy has the chainsaw on.

I use the chainsaw. It also depends on which campaign I am playing. Some campaigns spawn the chainsaw more than others. You just have to learn the maps & see which ones.

I prefer the sword. But when I get the chance I use the chainsaw.

If I only have a single pistol, I'll take a chainsaw.

If I have dual pistols or the Magnum, I find either of those more utilitarian than the chainsaw and don't want to lose them.

If I have another melee weapon already, I generally keep it as they aren't limited by fuel. Also, you don't need to pull-start a baseball bat before use.

So don't walk in front of a cutting chainsaw? ... I thought it was common sense...

you'd think, a horde attack, so a teammate rammed the chainsaw in me instead of the horde... lol. I got so mad that I mollied the ground and ran

Takes way too long to actually switch to it and get it reved up....hmm a melee which is ready in half a second or a chainsaw that takes 2 seconds and can be depleted. Unless its a gauntlet, i dont take it.

Because its noisy. The noise alone is what primarily turns me away from it. I cant stand that endless engine-rev drone, even if it is the classical "Chainsaw" noise.

Also, the Magnum is simply so far superior the vast majority of the time. It kills all Commons on ANY difficulty in a single hit, has 8 shots, can hit them at range, penetrates up to 2 targets and can still be used if you get knocked down. It is also a reliable weapon simply by itself if you have no primary ammunition remaining. It is the literal jack-of-all-trades weapon.

Other melee weapons also cleave through multiple enemies in one swing and, depending on the weapon itself, has specific benefits (Axe has a large swing-arc. Machete swings faster, etc). Melee weapons are of more benefit when facing a horde, but leave you completely vulnerable if you are knocked down or run out of primary ammunition for any ranged engagements.

Still, melee weapons are superior to the Chainsaw in that you can pull it out and swing almost immediately without the chain-pulling "rev" of the Chainsaw. The Chainsaw also runs out of "ammunition" meaning you cant simply swing it endlessly.

Virtually the ONLY benefit of the Chainsaw is that it actually draws nearby Commons towards you like a Bile Bomb. However, this is almost exactly the opposite of what you want the vast majority of the time, even if you've got the Chainsaw going to run through a gauntlet event - you still want as little resistance as possible and the Chainsaw only makes it worse.

I only use the chainsaw if I cant find another pistol to make a double pistol
