Why do people like versus?
I have been wondering for quite some time now. What makes people like versus so much? I have played Left 4 Dead 2 for over 230 hours on record and have only played versus once, and I'll admit I was not to impressed. I mean what's the point? To prove you're better than someone else? To beat people because you can? If you're doing it to better yourself on the game, just play a campaign on advanced or expert. That's what I would do.

It's just fun to play against each other. also to play infected.
well you just played it once, so how can you rate versus properly if you never got the full experience of a good game.

If you just play with randoms, u might stay away but if you know how to proper play versus with friends, it's gonna be fine.

But with that attitude i would also stick with campaigns only.

I like Versus because I like the different strategies as a Special Infected =) And I play only with friends, so there is none of that nastiness I keep reading about. It can be quite fun without trolls and etc. I'm pretty sure lots of people play versus for that reason, not to prove they're better than someone else. That wasn't the original intent of versus mode, at least I hope not! =P Though sadly, that IS what it's become now. That's why I play with friends and it's fun, laid back, and a enjoyable way to spend an evening

But as I said, I enjoy it because it involves a different strategy and play style than playing as a Survivor. I rather like ambushing from high up where they can't reach me, or finding someone in a dark house when they're alone heehee =D

Actually Excision. I have only played versus once on Steam. I have played versus on Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 on the xbox version. Even after all those games I did not like it. I played it, because my friends wanted to play it.

Hehe... A lot of people don't have your good attitude. I just have never liked versus, because I never liked fighting against someone, I prefer team work with all. That's why I like the campaign.

And that's a fully acceptable opinion to have ^.^ Campaign would definitely be your way to go. If you have friends that like to play it on Steam, perhaps try the mod that lets you play as Special Infected against bot survivors. That way, you're working with your team mates against bots. it's like campaign but on a different side! =P Then you can swap sides constantly. My friends and I do that sometimes, or we'll split and play against each other with bots on both our teams and it's more us just trying to nab each other.

With the right people, it can be quite a bit of fun ^.^ But I wouldn't touch online veresus with a ten foot pole ! I just know I'll get kicked left and right, my good attitude or no XD I'm too laid back a player to be all intense about winning =P I'm fine with losing, if I have fun in the meantime

Mostly for the challenge.

Playing most campaigns on advanced is pretty trivial, I've finished one where two of the other players were actively trying to teamkill one another. Even expert isnt that hard if you actually have a team that works together well.

In versus a really good infected team can wipe a disorganized one right as they walk out of the safe room. It requires a different level of strategy because player controlled infected dont act the same way AI do. A jockey might pull you in front of a window just so that a charger can charge you to your death. You need to be constantly aware of the level layout and where special infected could potentially spawn.

The only real issue with it is that public groups are fairly hit or miss.

I don't care for PvP action or for the community of 10 year old versus players, but it's fun to get into the skin of special infected.

Played a few public versus games early on for achievements and got a bunch of them with a friend in private games, but haven't really bothered with them since. I'm not great at versus (though a decent team helps) but even at my best moments I run the risk of getting kicked because, well, I don't know.

It's fun to come back and kick their asses then, though. :D
(and then banning them)

With that attitude that'd mean that basically all online games are a waste of time..

Lots of online games have co-op modes available.

VS is fun for an few hours maybe but by far the best part of L4D is expert Campaign.

i dont play much vs but i know it can be fun
and its like a harder campaign cuz the special infected are not so dumb(sometimes :D)
and its fun too play infected too

One word: teamplay.

In versus teamplay is even more important than in co-op.
Thats why so many people suck at playing vs.

Thanks for the info guys/girls. I just wanted some opinions. Some of you have good points, but really what it all comes down to with me. Other than friends, I prefer to play alone. I am a solo gamer. If I had my way I would make my game lobbies friends only. Online play is okay once in a while, but I prefer to play alone or with friends... Hey if some of you would like to play with me some time, you can add me.

Other modes have the limited difficulty of bots and less teamwork required
