one problem with a console style server browser, it's filtering by ping, so the real number as you can see is nothing like you would expect. if you open the console with ` (tilde key) and type openserverbrowser you will get a proper game browser, look under custom.

There maybe Expert games going on. But they might be friends only games.

I believe the total count includes everyone currently playing the game, including all game modes (mutations as well as normal modes) and single-player campaigns.

Then start a lobby. Plenty of Expert games going on ... they are just full and you do not see them. Time to make a lobby and start your own.
