Lag usually refers to latency in an internet connection, whereas FPS means "frames per second" and is affected by your computer's hardware capabilities.

Wouldn't both affect FPS?

Play an single player game, see if it "LAGs"
If not, try an multiplayer games, check for some scoretab se if you can find your latency (ping) there.

If it's lagging in Single Player, then it's your computer struggling to run the game. Try turning down the settings and/or picking a lower resolution and see if that helps.

open your console by pressing the ~ key and type in "net_graph 1"

This will show your FPS as well as your ping so you can tell what is slowing you down. If you're getting low FPS, reduce your graphics settings. start by turning Vsync off (or on if it's been off). Vsync can have a significant impact on how your computer manages the frame rate.

best of luck

Turn settings down. That is what I did, and it runs smooth for me.
