From Twitter, Dan said it was showing random problems on some builds.

Yeah, some Linux setups run it brilliantly, others are all over the place so it's a bit unknown.

If you hook into the BetaTesting branch (about to put details in a post here in a sec) you should be able to grab and test the Linux version but it's *officially* unsupported at the moment. I'm hoping to look at it in more detail next week when things quieten down :)

I didn't see a beta testing branch and the game doesn't seem installable on Linux. Does the beta require a password to unlock?
danthat  [developer] Jul 21 @ 10:57pm
yes, it's all thin the beta thread - password is thekickmenbeta

Oh! I see. I searched these forums for threads mentioning Linux, and that didn't pop up. Thanks. :)

I entered the password and opted into the beta. I'm still unable to install the game though, even after restarting Steam.

Running
licenses_for_app 529440
in the Steam console provides the following information:

(Sorry, it's not possible to copy+paste the output.)

Those two depots, 529441 and 529442, are the Windows and Mac depots, so I'm guessing the Linux depot needs to be added to the package I have (127306) too.

Yes sorry I forgot I had to remove the Linux version from the beta in order for Steam to allow me to publish the game on Friday (Steam's backend is a bit fiddly when it comes to the builds and depots, and one of the New Things is the builds have to sync up).

Anyway, when I get v1.047 working I'll make a Linux build and try to get it set to the Beta branch. Probably tomorrow, but deffo next week :)

This is great news. I have Windows 10 as a dual boot option but I'm following this for Linux - that's the only games I buy

OKAY if you're on linux I thiiiiink it should be downloadable through the default branch, now. Steam isn't brillaint for letting people opt-in to Beta branches of single depot so I've had to do something I think it's going to complain about. As a result I'm not 100% sure it's available, if someone has a sec to look and let me know that'd be ace :)
confirmed, I'm downloading it :D thanks Dan, its great not having to boot windows just to play the game

ha ha thank me if it works! So far there's a pretty 50/50 split of "works perfectly" to "utter shambles", so... ;)

Works pretty well! So far the only issue I've come across has been when doing Big Kicks/tackles with the mouse; moving the aiming guide stops abruptly when (I'm guessing) the invisible mouse pointer reaches the bounding box of the window?

Thank you for making this, I am learning so much about Football

I got that too, its like the angle is limited to 180º

performance has been good in general, only in "cut-scenes" (goals, penalties, etc) it trembles a bit. otherwise, everything works great. I ported my savegame from windows :D
Tried the tutorial, everything seemed to work just fine there (no obvious problems).

The only gripe (probably not just a Linux thing) is that the UI requires a mouse, but I have a dedicated game system with only controllers connected. I was able to work around this by mode shifting my controller's right stick to be a mouse when needed, but native controller support for the UI would be nice eventually.

Glad to hear it's going okay. Heard from someone this morning that said unplugging a 2nd monitor fixed all their problems (ha ha ??) so that's a workaround for now if you're really struggling.
