Google announces new all-in-one headsets
Video

These headsets could fix the #1 problem mobile VR has right now: overheating.

But don't let that video fool you into thinking its going to be awesome and like the Vive. You are a floating head with no real ability to do anything meaningful.

However, there is one use case this thing could actually be really good for. Check out Alt Space played in Google Daydream

It's super clumsey, but its just barely enough to be able to socialize with people and click things. So imagine if you ran Anyland on this. You couldn't build things but PC users could make things that used "When clicked" to change states.

It has the potential to really create an impassable divide between builders and people who just want to socialize and click stuff.

We wanna look if we can feasibly port to this, it being a standalone is very nice, and maybe the pointer could be enough to teleport around... a kind of explorer version of Anyland for chat and such, as you say. We've chatted with Google and will hope they send us some dev kits :)

@Philipp Did you ever take a look at Microsoft Hololense?

I saw a presentation on it and a conference but there were always long queues to actually test it, hope I can check it out myself some day (and would really enjoy a devkit of it too, also their other upcoming VR devices, we also chatted with Microsoft recently, they really like Anyland they say!).

I want to see anyland in Microsoft Hololense!

There's also the upcoming 'mid-range' Microsoft headsets - Acer and HP. There are motion controls for the Acer too.

It's all a step down from PC VR but Anyland might be a good fit for some of these.

Yep we'd definitely love those as devkits to check porting feasability! They still require a laptop, but apparently will have works-while-in-view hand controls. And then there's also the tablet (like iPad) port we're still considering, as well as possibly non-VR PC support for walking & chatting.

The VR revolution is in full take off mode and we are all here to shape it!

The Hololens at the moment is really quite bad. The field of view is like looking through a postage stamp, and the opacity is very low. The hand interactions are also terrible — it's like Leap Motion with an even smaller cone and lower fidelity. I never managed to figure out how to do it reliably. Way too overpriced for anything that level.

Also not quite sure how Anyland would fare in AR as opposed to VR. Would probably break your brain. :)
