Those who played, worshipped, completed first Mafia game in first decade of this century know what im talking about. Mafia 2 was nothing more than a reminder of first game. İt was like travelling around Mafia City lost heaven's chapters... Worse scenario, weak atmosphere (atmosphere never get strong when you change summer to winter - do not eat that) very easy and boring gameplay...
Go find first mafia game if you dont know anything about the series. Do not waste your money on this ten years expected FİASCO.

This game isn't worth it. Mafia 1 is pretty bad too. Horrible shooting system for example.

I do think that this was an amazing story. I must say that I didn't play the first game, but I don't feel the need to. I've heard that it's the same city and all, but more games have that. I just hope that Mafia 3 has another city to play in, because Empire Bay is too small to be the map for the third time.

Man, atmosphere is thick tar in this game. Setting, story, characters and voice acting are really good.

The story is nowhere near as good as the original, I'll give you that. But gameplay? Infinitely better. I loved the first game, completed it many times over the years, but it honestly had some of the worst gameplay in the history of games.

I have Mafia and Mafia II. BOTH are outstanding and very period correct. You don't like the game...no sweat. Don't play it. But don't rain on everyone else's parade. >:-(

The story in Mafia II is getting really interesting (I bought the game lately). It is far from an amazing sandbox, but that's not all that counts :)

I played both Mafias and enjoyed them very much. But I can see why someone who played the first one may not like Mafia 2. Different gameplay and it lost some of the old gangster glamour when the story ran into the 1950 s IMO.

@ralph6145 If I bought games based on Metascore, I would be missing out on some really enjoyable games. I buy game I like and not what some game average system recommends. So far I have been quite satisfied with ALL my purchases, especially Mafia 1 and 2.

That should make it clear it's not trustworthy
Metascore is a retarded system that has ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up many great games because enough gamers are braindead enough to trust a score system instead of saying it's worth the money or not worth the money because *enter reason*

Uh, someone correct me if I'm wrong but that is technically a favorable score, no? Although Metascore has never really meant much to me since it seems I'm nearly always in disagreement with it (both critic and user).

Anyway, I'm thinking about buying this. Played the first a looooong time ago and enjoyed it. The OP doesn't exactly go into much detail as to why this game is "not worth it". Everyone has opinions but this could be slightly more constructive.

77 is a pretty good score.

I played Mafia City of Lost Haven upon its release. Compared to what Mafia 2 offered us in 2010 the original was far better for its time (4 months after GTA 3) and the story and some of the missions were better than Mafia 2 IMO.
Mafia 2 has no free ride made, otherwise it is similar to Mafia 1 in that there is an open world map with linear missions within 1 storyline but it isn't a sanfbox game.
I'd say the game is worth $7.50 if you have a hankering for some early to mid 1900s mafia action.
I know what you're saying though OP, I was disappointed with Mafia 2 also, I expected more after Mafia 1 but for people who didn't have the pleasure of playing it back in the day and considering Mafia 1 hasn't been available on steam for a long time this is probably a good choice for them and I don't think it's ever been cheaper on Steam.
The DLC on the other hand is way overpriced, considering you could have got the Mafia 2 complete pack from GMG with all DLC included for $9 a month or 2 ago.
