Flicking Screen

Hi Guys, I need your help!


I have c2d e6600+4gb RAM and AMD Radeon 5770 VGA. The last one is the problematic one, cuz when i play Maffia II, the lightining effects make the screen flicker. If you type in to youtube search (example: maffia 2 flicking) you can see that what is my problem.
I know that, there would be 2 solution for this problem. The first would be that installing Catalyst 12.8, but thw windows doesnt let it, cuz the automatic driver updater will install 13.1 catalyst.
Anyway, with hard work i managed that install 12.8, but it doesnt help.
The other solution would be that 3d Analyze, but the steam-editioned Mafia 2 is not run from mafia2.exe (there is a special steam launcher, and the 3d analyze couldn't fix the problem).

So anybody who could help please comment here, i cant belive it that with AMD vga card I cant play Mafia 2 normaly (this flicking sh*t is so f*cking annoying). Maybe the Nvidia physx can be diabled?
If I go to option and set Apex PhysX off then nothing happen aswell....

AMD 6000 cards and earlier are effected by this. The solution is to either download a certain version of catalyst (I think it's 12.something) or to get a new GPU. This used to be a problem for me on my 5770 but i upgraded recently to an R9 and it works now :). You should certainly NOT run PhysX with AMD cards. I usually get 120fps without but with physx on medium that drops to 25! I do feel for you though, this problem haunted me for what seemed like an eternity.

There is a thread saying that version (beta) 14.1 of catalyst controller should be intsalled to solve this problem. The post is on the first page of the forum page. I have just installed the said version but am yet to try it out. I have an ati hd 5770 series card so i'm really hoping this works to save from upgrading just yet.

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=386270 This is the link you want. I downloaded said versionof C.C.C. and the game now runs completely smoothly with no flickering what so ever. I didn't have to change any of the settings in C.C.C. or anything. After my last post i just ran the game and all those annoying flickers had gone. Really chuffed. Definately worth a shot.
