Has anyone else done this in a L4D1 server?

You know, for a long time people have told me that using custom character models and skins online only work client side. And that the custom models could only be used to replace existing models. Well, that simply isn't true. I started messing with additional models a few weeks ago and seeing how they could be added to the game in addition to the 4 survivors without replacing anyone. Then I had to find a way to get to selec them and then make them work online. Well I found a way to do that as you can see in this test video

Has anyone else done this in a server for L4D1? If so are any of those servers still online and what is their IP? As far as I know I am the first since I have not seen anyone else do this. I find it strange that even though it does work, that Valve doesn't let people do this normally just like you install a custom map. The game fully supports the addition of models so why hasn't Valve made it easier for people to include them?
