How can you change speech and captions language?

How can I change L4D and L4D2 speech and captions languages? In L4D audio menu, I change the language to Spanish, and also choose in the game properties window to that language, but nothing changes ingame. My steam client is in Brazilian Portuguese, but I want to change the game speech and closed captions to Spanish.

L4D1 doesn't change speech language neither displays closed captions, while L4D2 displays captions, but always in English, but the speech is still in English. What must I do to change speech and caption languages? Thanks in advance.

Abre steam y ve a tu biblioteca de juegos, haz click derecho sobre Left 4 dead (o left 4 dead 2 ) y selecciona "opciones de lanzamiento". una vez ahí puedes escoger el idioma (español en este caso) y ahora re- inicia tu computadora y tu juego tendrá el audio en español.
para los subtitulos, esos los pones o quitas en el menú de opciones del juego.

Aunque no estoy muy seguro, creo que en L4D2 los mapas de L4D1 vienen en ingles aunque tu juego tenga idioma español, pero puedo estar equivocado, espero haber podido ayudarte.

It didn't work for me either. It works partially in l4d2, I think it has to do with the Steam client settings, since there are weird restarts and the game seems to copy what Steam is set to.

There are three seperate settings (this usually applies for other Source-games as well, btw):
Text in general, Audio and Subtitles.

Audio can be changed by rightclicking on the game, going to language and change to the desired one. Default is the one you set in Steam when you downloaded the game.
Subtitles require the console. Open it and type in cc_lang <language> (check the storepage for a list of supported subtitle-languages. For english, it would be cc_lang english, for example)
The rest of the text in general depends on the language you set in Steam. If you want to change that, you need to change the language you run Steam in.

You don't really have to change your Steam language though. Just type in "-language <language>" to change the game language.
