Edit: Also, I think a lot of people would be intimidated from playing Expert.
To be perfectly honest, that was in response to some liars saying that the ports were a GOOD thing. Would you be pleased about something that replaces your very way of life? I kicked that member and he called me a liar, despite it being him being the hypocrite. Some people play L4D1 just for Zoey, and then "moved on" to the ports.
Those kinds of people are not welcome in the group. You can enjoy both games as you please, as long as you're honest about it.
I'm almost certain the ported campaigns are the immediate and dominant cause, hence why I personally refuse to play the ports on L4D2 (I play the L4D2's original campaigns though). Hell, I even refuse to play any custom campaigns with the L4D1 survivors on L4D2! You're probably right in that L4D1 should have a discount, or at least have some degree of support (like a workshop) to increase the playerbase. Some of us have even created custom content for L4D1 and refuse to port it over.
Not that it stops the scumbag pirates and thieves who try to do so anyway without any sort of talent. I'm sure you'll know who I'm talking about. They would stop at nothing to destroy us.
Perhaps you would like to apply your like for L4D1 to some L4D2onL4D project material? Particles need to be remade to fit into L4D1, but the process is racked with tedium, and I can feel my sanity slipping. Perhaps you would be interested? We need more motivated people.
