How can I open old demos?
I went to load some old demo reels on L4D and none of the old ones load. I get this message in console...

ERROR: demo network protocol 1027 outdated, engine version is 1028
Failed to read demo header.

Is there anything I can do to load these old demos? or are they lost?

I found this when trying to search for a solution, but its L4D2...

anyone know if this will work? and what info i should be putting in

Just like the error says, the demo was recorded with 1027 and you are using 1028, the rules for this. Yes it will work, be advised, that anything that changed in Left 4 dead over the period of time from its version may affect the demo. For example, if you had 80 health from a hunter that scratched you and it did 4 damage, but in the new update it does 6, this can cause a conflict. Best thing to do is move on or save them as avi files next time.

I knew about the potential thread, but didnt even consider it to be a problem. They update this game like once a friggin year.
Can I change it back without any problems?

Yes, it'll be fine. L4D1 hasn't had any changes like that, which would prevent demo files from being played, I've done it recently myself, just remember to change the patch version back before you try to play.

the exact same steps as that guide says for l4d2, works for l4d1.
