Curious...
I own L4D2, so I have the maps and characters from this game. That being said, is there a reason to play the first one if you already have the second?

The first one has a very different atmosphere. The maps for the first one have several differences when played on L4D2. They are very close to the same but not identicle. Having the first one also gives you a platform to play a wide range of fan made maps that are very well done and in some cases better than the regular maps. I am very glad to have both games and I have to say that I spend more time on the first game than the second one.

Having played both games. I didn't really like the AI Director 2.0... And L4D1 had a better feel.

Oh, I agree, but the jockey and secondarily the charger are both deal-breakers for me. It actually makes me sad when I play L4D2 and see random fences thrown in to avoid death charges, or extra spawn areas patched in. They don't make sense with the whole map I feel it cheapens it.

In my personal opinion the original l4d is much better than the sequal, it feels smoother, and it just more enjoyable!

I agree totally with both of you.

1. It's a higher quality product (weapons got better animations, models are more detailed, textures of important models are of higher resolution, addional secondary movements like survivors being able to turn only their upper body when spinning only slightly, body awareness...)
2. Less bugs
3. Harder due lack of weapon-spawns overall (in average, you get ONE chance to pick up a T2-weapon) and healthkits (there are exactly four in the entire game, which are not in saferooms or the finale, L4D2 got 22 of those)
4. The AI is less dumb (both survivors and infected)
5. Exclusive custom campaigns
6. Different, health-focused scoring for VS
...

Quite a long list. So long, I actually ask myself if there is a point to play L4D2 if you got L4D1...

I defintely don't mind hard, I turn off the music on L4D2 to make it scary, and give less warning. The less weapon spawns sounds cool, I would love it if the Bot AI was better, and all of this is nothing as I have played L4D, I HATE Jockies. That ALONE may be enough reason for me to get the first game when it's on sale again.

Oh, my gosh, I hate jockies so friggin' much! Jockies are part of, but far from the only, reason I play L4D1 instead of L4D2 now.

L4D1 survivors are more like family that's why I love L4D1 . And I hate the bad port version in L4D2 . The original soul is all gone .

I totally agree with you too.

No one mentioned that this is the only god damn Source engine based game to ever include a look at your own body/feet while looking down. It made my jaw drop...and it still does.
Of course, some games have it better now, but it was still unique and unseen back in 2008.

Also a major change was in No Mercy at the finale, the building that u start the finale was changed from having a cover on the stairs to having it taken out

I think it might be like that in versus... I know that at in at least some of the maps in Left 4 Dead versus are the same as they are in Left 4 Dead 2.
