Pros Only?
I have question about the game's population. This is game is played by cybersportsmen only right now, isn't it? I was wondering if there is a place for a new guy. I was told that l4d is much much better than its sequel and I wanted to check it out, but I'm afraid of constant kicks.

Just practise on normal sometimes then if you're feeling confident go on advanced ( most of the time ) Then make friends and have a go at expert with them..

Clarification: I was asking about versus mode.

No, Versus is just filled with booters. They kick anyone who doesn't...fall in the bloodline basically. Laymans terms: If you don't have a mic, listen to them, and do what they do.

KICK

Just start a versus match on your own and done.

I wouldn't say so but I am really biased.

dont get L4D1 if you want to play versus as there arent many people playing Versus anymore. And well, L4D in general is a cess pool of random kicks/unwarranted kicks and plain ol fashioned griefing. It gets twice as a bad once you go into Versus. I often get randomly booted from versus games because my profile is friends only, so they cant see that I have 700 hours in the franchise. Also, I dont play with a mic because if you need to rely on vocal stimulation to react to situations, then you gonna have a bad time anyways.

Whoever told you that is dang right, L4D2 is a downright parody of the original your going to find L4D1 much better.

same problem, and basically I've been told that's just the way it is, unless you started playing in 2008 there is no way to get into versus because you get kicked for not being pr0 and you can never become pr0 because you don't even get a chance to try... if someone had plans for like making a community of people who want to get into versus without bossy 2pro4me people kicking them, I'd totally join that

220 hours in second part is not that bad to start with. There is no much differences in first one (though still relevant) You'll meet a lot of noobs way worse, i promise.

It's really frustrating to see people play Left 4 Dead for VS and, from what I've seen and read, exclusively so. I'm a die-hard Campaign player and I really enjoy that aspect. I don't begrudge people that prefer VS, but to see the game turn into VS is really frustrating.

VS is a whole different play-style and when VS players come into Campaign games it shows. They rush through and think they will take damage based on what they do in VS, which is Normal damage, not the Advanced or Expert damage that is much different. This makes playing with others in open lobbies difficult.

But perhaps most frustrating is seeing Suvrival relegated to achievement-only mode where so many people actively gltich their times.

All things considered...yeah, it's just frustrating.

Oh dear, I thought I was the only one. o; My thoughts exactly! There's something about expert campaigning -- perhaps it's the dynamic -- that captures the essence of the L4D experience.

To OP: if ever you feel vexed with the versus pros, I'd heartily recommend campaigns, preferably with a few chaps to group up with. ^^*

I have 600+ hours in this franchise and am probably one of the better players still online. I personally don't play Versus anymore as its just a game of rush a to b and the limitations of the Engine made it so rushing ruined L4D 1 and 2, and while its "part" of the game. It is only part of the game because the Common limit is set at 30, the background limit is set at 10, and the game is not intelligent/capable enough to adequately populate the map with common infected while there is already 30 active common infected. They could be trapped in the starting safe room of a level and not die, and the game will not spawn any more infected on the map because of it, thats an engine limitation, not a planned feature.

The most fun still seems to happen in Expert campaign games, even with complete pros there are plenty ways to spice things up. One time while playing we all decided to try and aim for 50% accuracy(easiest to hit with HR obviously), but we were being badasses about it and using M16s. Its incredibly difficult to be efficient at downing tanks/hordes/specials while attempting to hit your mark atleast half the time. That was a fun game, someone else tried going for the accuracy goal with me. We both used M16s/Uzis and he/she managed to shoot 43% and I got to 48%. It really changes up the gameplay all together, because if your teammate gets smoked or hunted, you can't just spray in their direction, you need to patiently aim your shot before depressing the trigger.

Elitism and ♥♥♥♥♥♥baggery has taken its toll on this franchise, it is however still incredibly fun to play if you are lucky enough to play Versus against people interested in playing it more the way developers intended. My name is a reference to the level design of the game, and my only hope is that in L4D3 the safe room location changes along with many other map geography to create a truly unique experience where every time you play the level looks different, and the path to escape is different.

I want 10 city blocks with randomized chunking and a randomized safe room location in every map. Keep the static level designs for classic campaign mode, but with this game mode call it "Escape!" and have it take about 20 mins to 1 hour depending on difficulty level and randomization. Love it.

There is no way for newbies to play versus if u meet pros on server. Only survival or campaign mode left :3 or u can also find noobs like you and make lobby but poor you when u will play againist me for example, good luck in practising

Its just the source engine which is used by tons of other games..... not rocket science. Just because you got almost 2k on playtime doesn´t necessary mean that you are any good.
