Can't connect to low ping West Coast L4D after I join another game
If I start out Steam fresh as lobby leader and start a game I connect fine to a low ping West coast L4D server near me (40ms pings) However, if I join in on ANYL4D server and go to make my own lobby afterwards , L4D connects me to a crappy high ping lousty 3rd party server, owned by individuals. My remedy is to quit L4D, quit Steam, and restart Steam and L4D. Then I can once again connect to a L4D west coast server with low pings.

Things I've tried to make it so I don't have to do this.

1. Deleting Steam and re-installing it. Same problem occurs.

I've not tried uninstalling L4D and re-installing it. I should try that next.
I should not have to do that.

It's as if one important file of L4D or Steam file is corrupted. and needs to be deleted and re-generated. As if I need to delete some basic Steam file so it doesn't dump me to crappy ping Third Party servers (when I join any public game, them try and make a lobby game). Anyone follow this? If I am Lobby Leader after having made a fresh game, that has ended ... if I go to start another game as Lobby Leader,, the server hangs and we all get dumped to a crappy 3rd party non-Valve L4D server. If I quit L4D and Steam and try again as Lobby Leader...the game connects us all to a nice West Coast L4D server near me.

Any ideas as to why this happens? Remember...the problem goes away if I quit L4D, quit Steam and restart both. I didn't have to go thru this crap until aboutt 8 months ago, after one of Steams updates.

I'll delete L4D, re-install Steam if any think that will solve it . I've verified files. Didn't help.
The thing is...upon deleting L4D via Steam, won't Steam just use Cloud to instantly re-install it, with the problem inherent in that?

Choose the best closest location for your servers in Steam settings and delete only l4d folder and install again.

Thanks. I will have to redo my settings (keys). Right? The thing I'm wondering about, is if Steam Cloud will automatically want to save my game setttings and be the cause of the problem all over again. I have a disk of L4D, not a STeam downloaded L4D.

I'm thinking I should un-install both STeam and L4D and start with a super fresh insatall of BOTH, just to be sure. I'll have to set all my game settings over again.

STeam should retain my rankings and stats....right?

Dont make it complicated, just reinstall the game. I didnt see problem when I did. No need to reinstall Steam, just delete l4d folder, and install l4d again. In Steam its all saved.
